Tyron Woodley, Tarec Saffiedine Likely Next for Strikeforce Welterweight Title

With Nick Diaz returning to the Octagon to challenge UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre at UFC 137 in October, the Strikeforce welterweight title is now up for grabs.

Tyron Woodley and Tarec Saffiedine are front-runners to meet for the vacant belt, according to Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, after they defeated Paul Daley and Scott Smith respectively at Saturday’s “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson” event.

The potential matchup would be a rematch of January’s Strikeforce Challengers 13 main event, which saw Woodley earn a unanimous decision over Saffiedine.

Strikeforce doesn’t yet have any major event scheduled beyond its September 10 card, which features the semifinals of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix.
