Two welterweights looking to return to the win column have now agreed to square off at “UFC Fight Night 25: Battle on the Bayou”, as Daniel “Ninja” Roberts is set to face TJ Waldburger at the September 17 event in New Orleans, the UFC announced Friday.
The fight is expected to take place on the preliminary card, which will likely stream on Facebook.com/UFC.
Roberts (12-3) has already fought three times in 2011, earning a win over Greg Soto at UFC 125 before decision losses to Claude Patrick and Rich Attonito. Roberts saw his UFC career open with a highlight knockout, but was unfortunately on the losing end of a looping hook from former UFC welterweight John Howard. Following that loss, Roberts won three-straight, including the victory over Soto and a “Submission of the Night” win over Michael Guymon at UFC 121.
At only 23 years old, Waldburger (13-6) already has a wealth of experience with 19 fights to his name. Waldburger made his Octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 22 in September 2010 with a unanimous decision win over David Mitchell. He was expected to challenge Dennis Hallman at UFC Fight Night 24 in March, but Hallman was injured and later replaced by Jonny Hendricks, who quick work of Waldburger by knocking him out within the first two minutes of the fight.
UFC Fight Night 25 is headlined by another welterweight showdown between Jake Shields and Jake Ellenberger. The card will also feature two Ultimate Fighter winners, as Court McGee takes on Dongi Yang and Jonathan Brookins faces Erik Koch, while Alan Belcher will also make his long awaited return at the event against Jason MacDonald.
