The hits just keep on coming for UFC 133, as Antonio Rogerio Nogueira has been forced out of his co-headlining bout with Rich Franklin at the August 6 event in Philadelphia due to a shoulder injury.
The UFC is currently looking for a replacement. UFC President Dana White confirmed the news following a Tatme report.
UFC 133 has been decimated by injuries and only days ago saw headliner Phil Davis drop out due to injury and be replaced by Tito Ortiz.
While the UFC has yet to find a new opponent for Franklin, White said they are searching for a replacement. Strikeforce fighter Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal has taken to Twitter to request a shot in the UFC against Franklin, but a crossover fight is highly unlikely as Lawal is still under contract with Strikeforce at this time.
UFC 133 will be headlined by a rematch between Ortiz and Rashad Evans and the event also features a matchup between middleweights Yoshiro Akiyama and Vitor Belfort.

turn it in to a fight night this card sucks
agree 100% i am not paying for this crap…. i think Dana still owes us for MIA vs. Spider….
Word
Luiz cane maybe…not a good year for the UFC.
Lhws on this card are dropping like flys. Its going to be a completly different card
I agree this should be a fight night .. I wouldnt pay for this ppv
…could be me…the schmuck who bought tix went they went on sale…
I’m thinking in the future that maybe the UFC should simply promote cards as “a UFC appearance” and not specifically promote any specific fight.
;-)
What concerns me here is the situational optics [and by this I in am NO way accusing LilNog or ANY fighter] that since the UFC has handed out medical coverage and such to everyone guys are pulling out of fights left and right.
Again, I don’t think this is at all the case, just to be glass clear.
But on the surface its easy to see where some are going to draw that conclusion. Ideally they’d arrive at the more reasonable conclusion that the sport is now at a level where fighters don’t need to hobble to the Octagon anymore just to keep the sport and the org going…
I agree with the maybe appearing. The level of competion is intense tho and tbey keep the fight coming. No matter whos on this card the millions who tune in will get there money worth. Its the ufc it will always ve a great show. But as far as ppv go i feel itthere isnt a title up for grabs the cost should be less than the 60 it cost maybe do a 35 or so. They still male millions
Bring King Mo over to fight Rich! Great way to break him into the UFC, and he hasn’t fought in forever so let’s see if his striking has improved any.
Is Bader medically cleared to fight?
they should just pull hamill from the Gustafsson fight and have him rematch franklin.
Why do I get the feeling this mean’s Ray’s most recent retirement will be short lived
Wow your all clueless!! Ortiz v Evans is way better than Davis would have been, and now Lil Nog out, who cares, what has he done in the UFC?, not alot and its no great loss,Dana will find a great fight for Rich.Plus Akiyama v Belfort. What is wrong with you people, every UFC event is sick!
And whoever said bad year for the UFC, do you actually watch UFC?? Been a great year so far inc a stadium event!!!
hey every fight night is sick to
Maybe Krystof, Luiz Cane…who knows rematch with chuck!!
Leben and Chael are always game to fight anyone in any weight class
Rich Franklin’s out. It’s too bad this card turned out this way, especially for the people that bought tickets. I don’t think the UFC is able to turn this ppv into a Fight Night card, even if they wanted to. I’m still ordering the ppv no matter who’s on it. I don’t want to miss a possible amazing performance and I haven’t missed a UFC card. Maybe in the near future Zuffa could put a free UFC card (besides the fight night’s and live on versus) on spike or something. Hope everyone heals up and makes a healthy return.
Machida? Come on it’s another chance here to build bridges with UFC, Ortiz should be dropped to face Franklin and Machida should take the fight with Evans, then along with Akiyama vs Belfort it should be pretty exciting.
Apologies in advance for the off-topicality.
Right now Tito Ortiz is a LOT more promotable than Lyoto Machida, so why would the UFC slot him into a lower profile fight?
UFC policy calls for the “biggest fighters in the biggest fights possible”.
Right now thats Ortiz-Evans, just to be clear.
Also, Machida and his handlers have made it pretty clear that they’re not feeling the whole “jump in” thing right now, so y’know…its probably not happening.
Plus Dana White doesn’t strike me as the sort of guy to ask another favor of someone who just turned him down.
I get Lyoto Machida has fans who want to see him fight. he11 a lot of us who aren’t specifically LM fans would like to see the guy fight.
But consider this:
Forget for a second that Machida needed/used a Seagal kick to beat Couture [which he probably didnt]. IMO [and in the opinion of others] LM beat Couture in the least fan-pleasing way possible, and his promotablilty was already sketchy to begin with. LM didn’t do himself any marketing favors by retiring a legend with a kick in the face when he could have won the fight more conventionally.
LM has lost 2 of his last 3 fights, and many said he’s lost 3 of his last 4.
Then he agrees to face Evans, then opts out after his wife/manager/agent/not sure of her official title asked for a stupid amount of money, again stupid only considering his promotability or lack thereof.
Smart to try and make sure his a$$ is covered in the event Evans beats him, maybe not so smart in how it all shook out.
Maybe/hopefully I’m wrong, but it might be awhile before we see Machida fight and/or before we see him fight someone in the mix…
Dana White SAYS he doesn’t hold a grudge and its all good, but DW says lots of things, some not always true.
