The UFC announced via Twitter today that featherweights Hatsu Hioki (24-4-2) and George Roop (12-7-1) have verbally agreed to meet at UFC 137 on October 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The highly-touted Hioki, considered to be one of the top featherweights in the world, was signed by the organization in late June.
Hioki has held titles in the Sengoku, Shooto, and TKO organizations. Hioki defeated Marlon Sandro for the Sengoku featherweight title last December, and holds two wins over former UFC title challenger Mark Hominick.
Roop, a veteran of the eighth season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” has put together a 3-4-1 record competing in the UFC and WEC. Roop has competed as both a bantamweight and lightweight, but it appears he’s found his home at featherweight as he has finished both Chan Sung Jung and Josh Grispi with strikes. His lone featherweight loss was to Hominick in January of this year.
UFC 137 is expected be headlined by a welterweight title bout between Georges St. Pierre and Nick Diaz.
