The Ultimate Fighter 7 To Feature 32 Cast Members
When the names of cast members for the upcoming season of “The Ultimate Fighter” began to trickle pour out in the past week one had to wonder what the promised “big change” was going to be for the series. As it turns out there was a reason for the avalanche of names: the upcoming season is going to feature 32 fighters, double the traditional 16-member cast.
MMAjunkie.com has the scoop on the major alteration:
According to a source close to the show, “The Ultimate Fighter 7” will start with 32 cast members — not the usual 16 — and every one of them will have to fight as soon as the show begins. The 16 winners earn a spot in the house, and the 16 losers are sent packing for home.
Those fights will likely be televised at a breakneck speed, meaning the season’s first couple episodes should include 16 fights in total. That’s a far cry from past seasons of the reality series, when the first fight of the season sometimes didn’t take place until a second or even third episode.
With the vast amount of fights likely to be shown during the first several episodes as well as the varying degrees of talent present in the rumored cast this season is shaping up to be a must-see.

wow this is going to be sweet i cant wait 4 this season 2 start already
sounds good, be intresting to see if forrest an rampage get on,
I personally really like the change and think it’s going to improve the pace of the show and also the talent that moves ahead.
THIS IS AMAZING!!! that is what im talking about get down to whats important that way we dont end up with any blake bowmans this season. everyone there will have actually won at least one fight no more lies about your record. well they got me even more excited than i already was. when is the debut anyway april right?
After TUF6 ended and people were discussing how to improve TUF my idea was to double the # of fighters so you could have 2 fights every show, so I hope that’s what they are doing. I think this will be a HUGE improvement since in my opinion some of the best episodes from the last 2 seasons were the double-fight episodes. It will also add a bit of suspense to the first fight since you won’t know how long it goes. It always bugged me that you could see the flash KO/submission coming when the fight started with only 5 minutes left in the show.
Also, having 32 fighters can only help the talent pool which means the fights should be better, at least after the weaker fighters are eliminated in the first round.
My understanding is there won’t be two fights each week, that the first round, with 16 fights will be to earn a spot in the TUF house.
I wonder how they will pair off the fights. Is there a way to give a seed like the College Basketball Tourney? I hope so, because you could potentially put the best against the best and loose out on a few good cast members, but am glad there won’t be anyone that can’t fight at all in the house. They have to win to get in.
Joel – to be fair to Blake Bowman, you need to include Marlon Sims and Wayne Weems (the master of the dreaded Turtle defense).
what about andy wang an all
This should also help with the competitors weight; everyone will have to make weight right from the start. No excuse for having to cut 20 lbs for your fight, just maintain within a few pounds.
jason that is a excellemt idea making them seeds have them do evaluations and and have two brackets and seed them 1-32 just like march madness
johnboy i am going to tell u now that forest and ramage are never gonna fight on the show because they are both too professional and are both nice guys. I think Forrest and Rampage is gonna be interesting, i think their relationship with each other on the show will be like the first season when it was chuck and randy. 2 coaches that are competitive but will wait untill they get in the octagon to fight
Bring back the challenges, besides the fights the challenges were the most entertaining, i say u bring team challenges and u compete for prizes. it would also be entertaining to get some real controversal fighters in the house, like chris leben, on season 1
Jason, thanks for the info. I wonder how they will show the 16 fights, just recaps over one episode or will they will show all of the fights over a couple episodes?
The only problem with seedings is making them accurate. If I remember correctly Tommy Speers was the last pick on the last season and he turned out alright. However it turns out, they’ve managed to get us all talking about the next season.
Lowcash, don’t trash Marlon Sims he beat up like 100 guys in a bar fight once hahahah
