Recently-signed Rousimar Palhares will make his UFC debut against Ivan Salaverry at UFC 84 according to a report by Sherdog.

UFC 84 will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 24th. The event will feature a lightweight championship main event between BJ Penn and Sean Sherk as well as Tito Ortiz versus Lyoto Machida and Rashad Evans versus Thiago Silva.

Palhares (7-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has won five straight fights in a row including his most recent win over Daniel Acacio in early-December. A member of Brazilian Top Tean, “Toquinho” has submitted 5 of his 8 opponents.

Salaverry (12-5 MMA, 3-3 MMA) is a long-time UFC veteran debuting at UFC 37 in 2002. Inside the octagon Salaverry has earned victories against Andrei Semenov, Tony Fryklund, and Joe Riggs. Among his five career losses are octagon defeats against Matt Lindland, Nate Marquardt, and Terry Martin.
