Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos Withdraws from July 30 Strikforce Fight with Paul Daley

Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos has been forced out of his upcoming fight with Paul Daley due to a shoulder injury. The extent of Santos’ injury is unknown at this time, according to mmaprime.tv.

The fight was scheduled to take place at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson in Hoffman Estates, Illinois on July 30th, with the fight being announced less than two weeks ago.

With Daley now without an opponent, Strikeforce has little time to find a replacement for a fight that takes place in just over a month. The most likely candidate is Strikeforce Challengers veteran Tyron Woodley. Woodley would be ideal, due to arguably being one of the top three contenders for the vacant welterweight belt, along with Daley and Santos.

Daley’s original opponent for this event was Tarec Saffiedine, who is now scheduled to challenge Scott Smith at the same event. Woodley and Saffiedine first met in January, with Woodley coming out as the victor of a unanimous decision.

The upcoming fight with Daley, regardless of opponent, is not currently scheduled as a welterweight championship bout.

woodley will destroy daley with his superior wrestling and i think strikeforce mathcmakers know that is a terrible matchup for daley and do not want him losing 2 in a row

I agree, I bet you Daley is pissed too. You know he was expecting to knockout Cyborg and prob would have. Now it’s like Kos all over again and he’s going to get wrestled by Woodley to the bell. Let’s hope Woodley doesn’t talk about his momma or someone is getting sucker punched. Lol :)

I can’t imagine Daley agreeing to fight Woodley on like 5 weeks notice, unless some sort of “incentive” is provided.
Or Zuffa comes to the rescue and sends Thiago Alves down there, if medically able, to show Daley exactly what an MMA striker looks like…
