Gegard Mousasi vs. Mike Kyle Planned for Sept. 10 Strikeforce Event

Gegard MousasiA matchup between former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi and fellow contender Mike Kyle is in the works for a rumored Strikeforce event on September 10, according to MMAjunkie.

The fight was originally scheduled for April with the winner potentially earning a shot at title-holder Dan Henderson, but Kyle was sidelined by a broken hand and Mousasi instead fought UFC veteran Keith Jardine to a draw.

Kyle (18-8-1) suffered a second-round TKO to heavyweight Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in December following four-straight wins, while Mousasi (30-3-2) will first defend his DREAM title against Hiroshi Izumi on July 16.

The Sept. 10 Strikeforce fight card is also expected to feature middleweight champ Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza vs. Luke Rockhold and Josh Thomson vs. Maximo Blanco.

Meanwhile, Strikeforce has booked UFC vet Jorge Gurgel against The Ultimate Fighter 8′s Joe Duarte for the main event of Strikeforce Challengers 18 on August 12 in Las Vegas.

Good to see Strikeforce giving another fight to Gegard …….. he got robbed last time although he couldnt finish ……and the foul call didnt help . I actually was wanting a rematch with him and Jardine first then the Kyle fight . maybe DREAM can pick up Jardine and hold a rematch in Japan .Would sell quite well there ….

I like the way that this card is stacking up! Is there any word on the venue for this card?

While I have a tremendous amount of respect for Gegard Mousasi’s skills, I’m unconvinced that he’s fully committed to North American MMA.
In a cage, a fighter is either all in, or he might as well go fight in DREAM or K-1 or wherever.
In other parts of the world part-time MMA fighting works, but not in North America.
Too many vicious wrestlers learning how to use the cage to their advantage, something Mousasi is going to find out as he moves his way thru the Zuffa org…

Time for DREAM to bring back the WHITE CAGE ……. I love that thing for some weird reason .

I wonder if ZUFFA see’s some opportunity working with them (DREAM) in the future ? While they have frowned on lending out their fighters in the past , maybe letting some of the middle of the road guys go over for exposure to the Japanese Audience is a good gesture . With the state of Japan as a whole the timing for such deals could get them in like Flynn .

……. and I’m not talking “co-promote ” ….. just lend some fighters and open a few doors for the UFC /STRIKEFORCE shows .
