Shane Carwin Confirms Broken Nose, Praises Dos Santos After UFC 131

Shane CarwinShane Carwin’s loss to Junior Dos Santos at UFC 131 came with some painful consequences.  In a blog post on www.shane-carwin.com, the former interim heavyweight champion confirmed that his nose was broken in the fight, and hinted at the possibility of a broken orbital.

According to Carwin, a slow start was the beginning of the end.

“As the fight started I just did not feel like myself, I wasn’t able to get my feet moving and Junior capitalized quickly.  As he was pummeling me I kept trying to find a way to defend myself so Herb would not stop the fight.  Junior was landing solid shots and that is where probably he broke my nose.”

Carwin described the end of the fight as a “blur” and was taken to the emergency room shortly after the bout.

“After the second round I knew I was in trouble.  My nose made it impossible to breathe, my eyes were full of blood and Junior was still coming at me.”

Carwin was quick to compliment the Brazilian slugger.

“Junior was a better fighter than I was last night.  His boxing was better and he used his boxing to take me out of the fight.  I have nothing but respect for Junior and his camp.  He deserves the title shot.”

Carwin is eager to put the loss behind him and continue his growth as a mixed martial artist.

“My heart can’t be questioned, I think I showed that I have the cardio to fight at this level and I just need to work on my technique.  Yes I can knock just about anybody out but I have to continue my quest to become the best fighter in my division.  I can’t wait to heal and get back into the gym and begin working on my game.”

Carwin definitely showed a lot of heart by sticking it through the first round. Most men would of folded. The state of Carwin’s face after the first round is something Cain’s going to want to look to avoid, if he’s ever to beat JDS. I summerize Cain will likely try his best to force the fight to the ground because standing and trading with JDS may not be the best idea for any HW, let alone the champion.

the new carwin is better, that’s the news. nothing major revealed about JDS, the best hands, TDD. JDS vs CAIN to me, is therefore hard to gauge if cain is %100 JDS probably should not fight carefully cause he’ll need the big shots to win. great TDD or not cain could exhaust someone by the takedown ATTEMPTS alone, not to mention it’ll limit all those great angles JDS uses. might be a grinder.
