Since UFC 103, the UFC has offered viewers to watch preliminary card fights free of charge. In September of 2009, Spike TV was the first to offer this for fight fans. Since that event, Spike has shown over twenty five preliminary fights. Following the immediate success of this offer, the UFC has expanded to other TV networks including ION Television, Facebook, and for the first time this Saturday, YouTube.
Five preliminary matchups from UFC 131 will be airing live on both Facebook and YouTube. Spike TV will continue their tradition of airing the final two preliminary fights, pitting Jesse Bongfeldt vs. Chris Weidman along with Sam Stout vs. Yves Edwards.
Prior to Spike TV’s one-hour special, both Facebook and Youtube will be airing the first five fights of the night, which include middleweight Nick Ring taking on UFC newcomer James Head, Dustin Poirier against Jason Young in a featherweight battle, heavyweight veterans Joey Beltran and Aaron Rosa, Japanese superstar Michihiro Omigawa looking to return from a defeat at the hands of Chad Mendes against fellow featherweight Darren Elkins, and a light heavyweight scrap pitting Krzysztof Soszynski taking on late replacement Mike Massenzio.
The preliminary card leads up to the pay-per-view main card, featuring a #1 heavyweight contender’s bout between Junior Dos Santos and Shane Carwin.
