Hawaii UFC Event Delayed Until 2009

From the Honolulu Star Bulletin:

The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s much-anticipated debut event in Hawaii won’t happen until at least July of next year according to UFC President Dana White.

White, who told the Star Bulletin six months ago that he was close to finalizing a deal to hold a show at Aloha Stadium this year, said he will wait until a recently passed bill to regulate mixed martial arts goes into effect.

Though many MMA promotions hold events in Hawaii on a regular basis using a special permit, the UFC has stated that they want the recently passed bill to be in effect before the promotion debuts in the state. The bill does not go into effect until July 2009 meaning their debut will likely come in the second-half of next year.
