Alan Belcher will make his long-awaited return to the Octagon when he takes on Jason MacDonald in a featured middleweight bout at “UFC Fight Night 25: Battle on the Bayou” on September 17 in New Orleans, the UFC announced Thursday.
Belcher (16-6) has won two-straight and four of his last five, losing only a controversial decision to Yoshihiro Akiyama while earning four-straight fight night bonuses before a career threating eye injury sidelined him since last May.
MacDonald (25-14) scored a first-round submission of Ryan Jensen at April’s UFC 129 to bounce back after a broken leg ended his UFC return one year earlier.
A middleweight matchup between The Ultimate Fighter 11 winner Court McGee and Korean prospect Dongi Yang has also been confirmed for the UFC Fight Night 25 fight card, the first Bud Light-sponsored event which airs on Spike TV.

WOW I don’t see MacDonald lasting very long in this fight with belcher especially if belcher returns close to the form he was in before his eye injury..i was expecting the ufc to give belcher a step up in competition like on the lines of Dan Miller or even Tom lawlor but this fight should prove if belcher is ready for a step up because jason always gives his all but I think he is abit out of his league in this one…belcher by first round tko
Jason MacDonald isn’t exactly the easiest opponent to make your Octagonal return against after more than a year layoff…
I think where Belcher had such a long layoff that this fight is simply to gauge if he still has it or not. Macdonald certainly is no pushover and its not as easy a fight as it may seem. I got Belcher winning a 1 sided decision but its tough to call with the layoff. Whoever wins should get a nice step up.
Yang/Mcgee not to exciting but it makes sense as they are probably both middle/lower tier of the division at this point.
