Shane Carwin has replaced Lesnar and will face dos Santos in the new headliner of the June 11 event in Vancouver, UFC President Dana White announced Thursday.
Lesnar withdrew from the bout after symptoms from the disease returned while taping TUF 13 and continued to limit his training, despite being less serious than when they first sidelined him as heavyweight champion in late-2009.
Lesnar was confident the disease wouldn’t force him to retire, but doesn’t yet have a timeline for his return as he undergoes treatment at the Mayo Clinic, though surgery isn’t out of the question and would sideline him indefinitely.
Carwin (12-1) looks to rebound from a July loss to Lesnar that followed four-straight UFC wins, while dos Santos (12-1) tries to earn a shot at heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez after earning his sixth-straight UFC win over Roy Nelson in August.
Jon Olav Einemo, who was scheduled to face Carwin at UFC 131, does not yet have a replacement opponent.
