Vitor Belfort vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama Set for UFC 133 in Philadelphia

Vitor BelfortVitor Belfort will look to rebound from his February loss to middleweight champ Anderson Silva when he meets Yoshihiro Akiyama in a featured 185-pound matchup at UFC 133 on August 6 in Philadelphia, the UFC announced Thursday.

“After three straight Fight of the Night performances, Yoshihiro Akiyama will take on former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort August 6 in Philadelphia,” UFC President Dana White told

Belfort (19-9) earned a title shot with a win over Rich Franklin in his return to the UFC in 2009, but was sidelined for more than a year before being knocked out by Silva in the opening round at UFC 126.

Meanwhile, Akiyama (13-3) earned a controversial decision over Alan Belcher in his Octagon debut in 2009 before dropping back-to-back bouts to Chris Leben and Michael Bisping last year.
