Shamrock And Son Sign With EliteXC
According to a press release distributed earlier this evening, MMA Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock and his son Ryan Shamrock have both signed multi-fight deals with ProElite’s EliteXC Promotion.
In addition to the signing, the release states that both fighters will be making their EliteXC debut on the same Cage Rage 25card this March.
EliteXC Live Events President Gary Shaw commented:
“Ken is responsible for putting MMA on the worldwide map and making it what it is today. I have the utmost respect for all the Shamrocks. Believe me, I have signed fighters with EliteXC and many more in boxing, but I can truly say I’m as excited about this signing as I have ever been.”
43-year-old Ken Shamrock also commented on his return to MMA competition:
“I’m totally committed to returning to the cage injury free and anxious about fighting in England for the first time…It is very exciting for both Ryan and I. We will be making MMA history by being the first father and son to ever fight on the same card.”
While Ken’s 19 year old boy Ryan just may have a promising MMA road ahead of him at 1-0, I don’t really understand the motivation for signing Ken Shamrock at this point in his career if you can even call it that. Ken may still offer a bit of a draw for long time fans, and of course there is still rumor of Shamrock-Shamrock happening in the future, but in general I just don’t think the guy should be fighting anything…at all….ever. Either way, best of luck to the Shamrocks and their new home.

I know I have said this before, but would somebody PLEASE get rid of Ken Shamrock. PLEASE. I don’t really like Frank either, but he can fight (sometimes) I probably won’t like Ryan either, but I am willing to give him a chance, but who the hell is Ken going to fight? The only fight I would pay to see is Ken vs Frank. That’s not going to happen anytime soon though because Frank is going to get his face kicked off by Cung Lee.
You pretty much summed it up scotchy, the general consensus is that until Ken and Frank face off, no one really cares about Ken Shamrock. And I don’t even think Ken vs. Frank should happen either, I think Ken might get badly hurt if he keeps trying to hang on to his MMA career. There are so many things Ken could do within mma other than fighting, but my guess is he really wants to retire on a win, which he probably wouldn’t get if he stayed in the UFC.
yeah your right eric there is so much ken could bring to the sport instead of fighting. with his experience he could give a lot to other fighters.but most times sadly,as in boxing, it is the fighter themselves that relizes they should get out of the sport last. ken may well win at cage rage but what will he gain? other fighters will be queing up just to get his name on their record.
Ken who?
(that’s a joke, just like Ken is becoming)
Ok, I’ll fan the flames. How on earth can a guy call HIMSELF “the world’s most dangerous man”, given his horrible record, with a straight face.
Can’t he be like Prince? (Formerly the man known as …)
1 Win in his last 7 fights… 2 Wins in his last 9.
The man hasn’t fought ANYONE worth two craps since 1995!!!!
You guys need to have a little respect.. Ken “The most dangerous ham” Shamrock has done alot for this sport.. and was an admirable stepping stone for many current fighters in the UFC.. LOL
Good one Sean… you almost had me for a second.
“an admirable stepping stone for many current fighters in the UFC” – HA!
AS much as it pains me I predict that Ken will get some wins in Elitexc, I have not been impresssed with most of the MMA matches outside UFC and WEC I have seen. Other organizations such as IFL etc have alot of young fighters and fighters that have proven to not be at the top level of competion in the UFC already. The IFL grand prix was proof of that. I am not saying that a fighter not in the UFC or WED is crap, I am saying they have work to do yet to be considered a top level MMA fighter.
I can’t wait to see the old dude fight. George kept it going well past his prime
