Rising bantamweight Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson has agreed to replace an injured Brad Pickett and will face former 135-pound champion Miguel Torres at UFC 130 on May 28, the UFC announced Wednesday.
“The fastest man in the division has answered the call, and Demetrious Johnson will move into Pickett’s spot to face the former divisional kingpin,” UFC President Dana White told UFC.com. “Both men have verbally agreed to the fight.”
Johnson was originally slated to take on Renan Barao on the Las Vegas card, but Barao will have a new opponent announced soon.
Torres (39-3) topped Antonio Banuelos in February for his second-straight win following back-to-back losses, while Johnson (9-1) earned his third-straight win by beating Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto at UFC 126.
The Torres-Johnson matchup will be featured on Spike TV’s UFC 130 preliminary broadcast, which also includes Thiago Alves vs. Rick Story.
The UFC 130 fight card is headlined by a third meeting between UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard and also includes Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs. Matt Hamill and Frank Mir vs. Roy Nelson.
