A rematch long in the making between Anderson Silva and Yushin Okami appears headed to the UFC’s Rio De Janerio card. Anderson’s training partner Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira confirmed the news to Brazilian site Tatame.
The two previously met at Rumble on the Rock 8, a bout Okami won after an illegal kick to the head by Silva. Silva led the majority of the fight, stuffing all but one of Okami’s takedowns and battering the legs of Okami. Okami was knocked out by an up kick from Silva while working in Silva’s open guard. That up kick, a legal kick in Cage Rage and PRIDE, marks the last time Silva lost.
Silva will be looking to extend his record streaks of UFC title defenses to nine and consecutive UFC wins to 14. Silva last fought at UFC 126 where he knocked out Vitor Belfort with in spectacular fashion with a high front kick.
Okami is coming off a win over Nate Marquardt at UFC 122 and is the winner of three straight in the octagon.
The event will likely serve as the headliner for the UFC Rio card August 27. UFC Rio marks the promotion’s first return to Brazil since UFC Brazil in 1998.
