A title bout between newly crowned UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former title-holder and ex-teammate Rashad Evans is expected to take place in September or October, UFC President Dana White recently confirmed on MixedMartialArts.com (via Fighters Only).
Jones (13-1) won the 205-pound belt in impressive fashion with a third-round TKO of Mauricio “Shogun” Rua last month at UFC 128 for his second win in just six weeks and fourth-straight overall.
Evans (15-1-1) hasn’t fought since back-to-back wins over Thiago Silva and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in the first-half of 2010 after a knee injury knocked him out of the matchup with Rua.
Jones and Evans originally dismissed talk of a potential fight between them, but their relationship soured ahead of UFC 128 and the UFC immediately announced the matchup following Jones’ win.
