Newly-crowned Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson will make his first title defense against the winner of an upcoming bout between Gegard Mousasi and Mike Kyle.
That bout takes place at “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley” on April 9 from San Diego, California.
Strikeforce boss Scott Coker confirmed to MMA Weekly that the title bout will occur in the fall, possibly on an unannounced September event.
“Gegard fighting Mike Kyle is going to be the front runner to the title fight against Dan Henderson. I think that fight will happen some time in the fall,” Coker stated.
Meanwhile, former light heavyweight champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal will likely face either Roger Gracie or Ovince St. Preux according to Coker.
Lawal is set to make his return to the cage at “Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum” on June 18 which is expected to take place in Dallas, Texas. That event is also set to feature the final two quarterfinal bouts of the heavyweight grand prix tournament featuring Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum and Josh Barnett vs. Brett Rogers.
“King Mo” has been out of action while recovering from knee surgery. He last competed this past August where he suffered the first loss of his career to Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante.
