UFC Fight Night 13: Houston Alexander vs. James Irvin

Houston Alexander will clash with James Irvin at UFC Fight Night 13 in March in a fight that has the makings of a standup war according to a report by MMAjunkie.com.
Alexander (8-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) took the UFC by storm in 2007 scoring first round knockout wins against both Keith Jardine and Alessio Sakara. In his next fight Alexander was the one being quickly defeated losing via TKO midway through the first round against Thiago Silva.
Irvin (13-4 MMA, 3-3 UFC) is coming off a disqualification win against Luis Arthur Cane at UFC 79 in December. He returned to the UFC in late-2006 following several fights in smaller promotions and defeated Hector Ramirez via TKO. In his next fight Irvin lost early in the first round to Thiago Silva after suffering a knee injury while being taken to the ground by his opponent.

Houston’s got some potential.. I hope he gets smart and gets a ground game or some wicked take down defense.. He’s not gonna get lucky and get guys who are gonna just run at him like morons forever..
James Irvin can’t get a break, first the two Brazilians, and now this guy.
Not sure what to think of James Irvin, Bonnar dominated him thoroughly but he is alright standing up. Basically he is a tough guy and a scrapper but not a truly top level fighter. He certainly doesn’t duck anyone.
I haven’t watched the Luiz Cane fight, but honestly I surprised he’s still fighting in the UFC. He was dominated by Terry Martin, who is now at 185. Yeah the infamous knee got him that win, but he was getting beat bad again on the ground. Bonnar killed him on the ground. Silva, too. Well, this should be a quick fight either way it goes. Possibly fun to watch.
cant wait to see houston fight again hes a monster i was gutted when he lost last time,
nice to see this fight is happening in england to got to get me tickets to this
personally i like houston he is a great fighter i also like the sandman this would be a great fight 2 guys just having a slugfest
The Assasin and the Sandman…sweet. Someone is going down!!
i agree that alexander is a beast in stand up but he looked so out of his depth on the ground he will need massive improvements if hes gonna get to the top of this stacked division.you cant just have one skill these days top fighters soon work those fighters out.
style wise, i think this is a great fight. both guys like to strike, they both have ko power, there’s no way this is a boring fight. i think alexander takes it though cuz he’s f’n crazy.
There is a lot of pressure on Houston on this fight, 90% of the hype from his first fights has already disappeared because of his loss against Thiago. If he loses a stand-up war against the Sandman then people won’t care about him anymore.
I KNOW THAT HOUSTON ALEXANDER COULD WIN THIS FIGHT HE JUST KNEES FROM JAMES IRVIN EVEN THOUGH THE PRESSURE IS ON HOUSTON I KNOW HE WILL WIN IF HE DOESNT MESS UP.
I KNOW THAT HOUSTON ALEXANDER COULD WIN THIS FIGHT HE JUST NEEDS TO WATCH OUT FOR THOSE FLYING KNEES FROM JAMES IRVIN EVEN. THOUGH THE PRESSURE IS ON HOUSTON I KNOW HE WILL WIN IF HE DOESNT MESS UP.
Houston should be watching for that infamous ‘flying knee’ that sleeps quietly and awaits it’s disposition. James is not a fighter to be taken lightly, he has not come this far without a true fighter heart. James is a relative of mine- and I am extremely proud of his accomplishments and what an extremely well defined body that takes a lot of upkeep!
