UFC 84: Karo Parisyan vs. Thiago Alves
Welterweight contenders Karo Parisyan and Thiago Alves are set to battle at UFC 84 on April 19th
Parisyan (18-4 MMA, 8-2 UFC) has remained in welterweight title contention since his first fight with the UFC in 2003 but has yet to receive the elusive shot at the championship. Parisyan was scheduled to face then-champion Matt Hughes at UFC 56 but had to pull out of the fight due to an injury and has yet to receive a chance at the title. Since losing to Diego Sanchez in late-2006 Parisyan has won three straight fights against Drew Fickett, Josh Burkman, and Ryo Chonan.
Alves (13-3 MMA,6-2 UFC) opened his career in the UFC with victories against Ansar Chalangov and Derrick Noble as well as losses to Spencer Fisher and Jon Fitch. Following his loss to Fitch in mid-2006 Alves has won four straight defeating John Alessio, Tony DeSouza, Kuniyoshi Hironaka, and, most-recently, Chris Lytle.
The fight joins an impressive rumored lineup that includes a welterweight title bout between Matt Serra and Georges St. Pierre, a lightweight championship bout featuring Sean Sherk taking on either BJ Penn or Joe Stevenson, and Rich Franklin versus Travis Lutter. Other rumored fighters include Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Jason MacDonald, Jonathan Goulet, Jeff Joslin, and Sam Stout.

I hope Karo gets his block knocked off. Mainly because he was scared to fight Jon Fitch. He knew he would get killed by Fitch, so he took this fight instead. I hope Alves destroys him.
Woooooo, this has the potential to be the fight of the year. Alves is a badass. I bet he is the underdog though.
After Karo went after a guy 20 lbs lighter and much less experienced (Nate Diaz) on TUF 5, I lost all respect for that guy. He likes to bully those he can, and avoid those he can’t.
Good point lowcash, I agree 100%. Let’s go Alves.
Lets go Alves Lets go, Lets go Alves Lets go.
Definately liking the sounds of this card. Haven’t seen 2 title matches in 1 event for a while, since UFC 73 stacked if I recall.
The Witch Doctor – Yep.
This card should be the one called Stacked!
Holy Crap – this is an unreal card. I have literally already booked my hotel and flight … I’m ready when you are UFC.
Alves will be the underdog because of Karo’s ground game and judo, but if the fight stays standing and Alves keeps his distance he could definitely score the “upset.” I think Alves’ BJJ is massively underestimated as well, Karo may find that out the hard way.
lowcash that is exactly what i wa guna say, it would of been funny if diaz would of poped him on the chin an dropted him.
going to be the best card in ufc histroy
Not for nothing but Karo has definitely gotten the shaft when it comes to a title shot (in the past). With him supposedly ducking Fitch that isn’t going to help. What’s this guy thinking? He doesn’t seem like a guy who would duck a fight.
Can’t wait for this card. 08 its looking unbelievable

Dont sleep on Karo. He is a hard worker and is not scared of anyone. his judo is sick and a very seasoned fighter for somebody his age.
Karo would never avoid a fight. It seems that the UFC has been giving him mediocre opponents so that he can’t make his way back to the top contender spot. Fitch is a good fighter and maybe they will do the same to him. I would love to see that fight. Karo owned Serra and no doubt would make a good fight with any of the top 5 contenders.
As much as it seems Karo backed down from Jon Fitch that not true Armenians back down from nobody, the bottom line is Karo been going up against top notch fighters and winning them all just recently he broke his hand now he could take a chance against Fitch and risk the chance at not being able to fight in a title match, otherwise it would be another unanymous decision for Karo against Fitch and coming this Wednesday it going to be a drastic kill against that young punk.
