Monday’s open tryouts for The Ultimate Fighter 14 drew 400 bantamweight and featherweight fighters to Newark, New Jersey with hopes of earning a spot on the latest installment of the UFC’s Spike TV reality series, according to MMAjunkie.
Among the hopefuls were UFC veteran Din Thomas, a castmember on “TUF 4: The Comeback,” as well as World Extreme Cagefighting vets Wagnney Fabiano, Micah Miller and Ian McCall.
The Ultimate Fighter 14 will be the first season to feature fighters from the 135-pound and/or 145-pound divisions added through its merger with the WEC late last year.
UFC bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz and top-contender Urijah Faber have been rumored as front-runners for The Ultimate Fighter 14 coaches, but UFC President Dana White has said other fighters are also being considered.
The Ultimate Fighter 13 debuts on March 30 on Spike TV with heavyweight contenders Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos coaching a welterweight cast before squaring off at UFC 131 on June 11 in Vancouver.
