UFC 84: Sean Sherk Likely Fighting in Montreal
Former UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk, who was stripped of the 155-pound title following a positive test for steroids in 2007, will return to the octagon in April according to Sportsnet. His opponent for the bout will likely be the winner of the UFC 80 Lightweight Championship main event between Joe Stevenson and BJ Penn giving the UFC’s first-ever Canadian event two title fights.
Sherk (31-2-1 MMA, 6-2 UFC) returned to the UFC in 2005 losing to Georges St. Pierre. Since the loss he’s won three straight fights over Nick Diaz, Kenny Florian, and Hermes Franca.
UFC 84 takes place April 19th in Montreal and will feature a main event bout between Matt Serra and Georges St. Pierre as the welterweight champions unify their titles. Former middleweight champion Rich Franklin faces Travis Lutter at the event and fighters Mauricio Rua, Jason MacDonald, Jonathan Goulet, Jeff Joslin, and Sam Stout are all expected to appear on the card.

hope bj can come through and set up a fight with sherk.also hope sherk doesnt make any more mistakes with drugs whether he knew about it or not otherwise he shouldnt get another chance.

I would like to see him fight BJ or Joe. I think the BJ/sherk fight could turn out a lot like second BJ/Matt Hughes fight. Pretty sure BJ would beat him up badly, but then gas if he hasn’t submitted him after the second or third. BUT, I don’t know if BJ can get past Joe Stevenson. That could be a great fight as well.

I hope this does end up going down in Montreal and Sherk does fight, that way I can get a double-shot of cheering GSP and booing The ‘roid Shark in person. So much more satisfying than cheering/booing at a TV, haha

This looks to be the best Card in quite some time. Speaking of cards, how does Lesnar v Mir get Main Event over Silva v Nogueira? They gonna pay them more too? I know you have to do some marketing and use the name recognition factor but this seems like absolute crap to me.

I dont know I’m getting kinda tired of the UFC and the lazy ass, get em on the ground, lay there, throw a punch every once in awhile crap. If this was a true “street fight” or Roman Gladiatorial type event, getting that close to someone would mean your going to get bitten, eye gouged, fingers broken etc., I think there should be a ground and pound or submission part to the game but with these wrestlers especially, will they PLEASE make them get to their feet and fight. Give them a 5 count and if there isn’t “sufficient” action..ie., more than some lazy ass body punch, they get to their feet and excessive takedwns with no attempts to end the fight should result in a restart or point deduction.
Nog and Sylvia is the main event.
how does anyone think bj won’t get past stevenson? and as for sherk, why on earth does that guy get so much love…cuz he’s friends with dana white is why. it’s bs cuz there’s like 10 other contenders in that division who would put on a much better fight then sherk ever does. not only does he use roids to cheat, but he’s boring as f***. it’s mma, not wrestling. he practically had franca mounted the whole fight and couldn’t do ****. at some point, realize he’s bad for the sport and make him earn it like everyone else. he should at least have to face florian again after he de-roids.

You’re right holy_dave, The heavyweight interm is NOW listed as the main event but up till a feew days ago it was listed as the second to last fight on the card and the Mir v Lesnar was being promoted as the Main event. Wonder who threw the Tantrum? I’ll go with Mr. Boring Silva.
