Jones better win with signing his name champ 2011 aha REPRESENT ROCHESTER NEW YORK BABY LETS GO JON BONES JONES!

  • Butters says:

Jones is good.. Rua is great – this is a huge (and possibly premature) leap for jones… Rua by Submission early

  • Andrew says:

I want jones to lose. Shogun it!

  • Elbows_of_Death says:

    Shogun via destruction…he won’t lose

  • willyt says:

I can not wait for the Jon Jones hype train to come to a screaming hault Saturday night when shogun knocks his a$$ out

    • Advent says:

You might [will] be disappointed on Saturday night…

    • Clown says:

lol this hype train you speak of.. have you seen his last ermm all of his fights? It isn’t hype the kid is good. freakishly good. Is he to young for this fight maybe but he can win. And if he doesn’t he will still be in the spotlight because of his current rank and how he stepped up to take the fight and because of all the other crazy good fights he could sign.

      • willyt says:

Of course he is good and he deserves this fight but Dana white and the ufc wants Jones to win this fight so bad it is obvious. Jon Jones in the moment special on spike come on now. U cant tell me they are not hyping him to the extreme. IMO he needed one more fight with a top 5 contender to get him more experience for this fight. He has not been tested yet. Shoguns striking with leg kicks and knockout power will be 2 much for bones this time. Will bones be champ in the future? Absolutely but not this time

  • Advent says:

So what did Jones do or say that pissed him off?

  • glassman6 says:

if you look at jones record, he really hasnt faced any strikers in the ufc. and when he stands jones goes to dec!!!!! shogun in the 1st or second, if not he will lose by sub or being layd on for 3 or 4 rounds.

  • skdrcr says:

He’s faced strikers. Bonner who was a golden glove boxer I believe and Vera. He just hasn’t faced a striker of Shoguns caliber. I personally would like to see Shogun strike with Anderson and see what happens. The battle of Curtiba.

  • van man says:

Im starting to think all you guys forgot how Shogun KTFO’ed the guy that supposedly was unbeatable and a striking wiz. Now he’s facing a brash, young beast that really hasn’t done anything to warrant this title fight. Beating the janitor? Beating a lousy Darth Bader, who barely escaped with a win over Lil Nog? This dude should have been thrown to Couture, Machida, or even Forrest before he should have been allowed this mockery. Shogun by dismemberment.

    • Clown says:

This comment is slightly one sided don’t you think. I’d like an explanation on how its a mockery that he got this fight. From what I remember and I could be wrong but other fighters were signed to fights and there were injuries to others so that leaves jones to step in.

And his past fights might not have been with top tier guys but Bader isn’t lousy by any means and just because he “barely escaped a win” over someone doesn’t make them a bad fighter.

Not taking anything away from Shogun cause he can/could win this fight in a lot of different ways but on the flip side of the coin Jones could toss him outta the cage if he got a good grip.

And I’d go on record saying he’d beat Couture, and probably even Machida but I’d say he would have issues with Forrest

  • Munkey Nutz says:

Really excited for this fight tomorrow night. A cocky arrogant Jones vs a re-energized healthy Shogun. I have butterflies in my stomach already. I hope this fight ends violently one way or the other, I really don’t want to see a snooze fest after all this hype for the fight.

    • Newfie says:

I agree. Most people are siding one way or the other, I am not one of those who definitively think one or the other is going to win. I can’t wait for this, one more day. Half the people are going to see their guy lose, and I can’t wait to find out.

  • mikewh says:

A healthy Shogun is dangerous in every scenario in the fight.

  • jcohl says:

I know I tend to overdo it sometimes with the length of my main page posts, but I would really appreciate a legitimate explanation from some of the Rua supporters about how their guy is supposed to overcome the vast majority of disadvantages in this fight.
And please, do try something more detailed than, “hez gunna punch him in da face, yo”.

If you think Rua will win the fight, thats cool.
If you think Jones is more style than substance, thats cool too.
All I’m looking for is something other than p!ss and vinegar and fanboyishness as it relates to qualifying some of the nonsense I’ve read on this and other threads the past couple weeks.
i mean this is the frenZy. If I wanted to read sh!t on my screen, I’d hit up Sherdog’s forums.
    ;-)

Rua may very well sucessfully apply his superior conventional striking and experience to score the win and retain, but thats not likely.
If any of you out there are seeing something that the majority of the MMA community have not, then please share it.

I realize that the Countdown show made an effort to explain how Rua’s leg kicks and attitude could win the day, as per his manager/s POV, but beyond that I haven’t seen anything to back that up.
Rua in the UFC and Rua in PRIDE are 2 very different fighters.
Shutting down past-their-prime’rs and spending a lot of time hurt hasn’t exactly filled me with confidence that Rua and his surgically reconstructed knees can beat a younger, fresher fighter surpassed only by GSP in terms of fluid transitioning from striking to wrestling to submission grappling.

Just trying to keep the level of discussion at our usually high standard here, because I haven’t noticed this much of a drop since the last Fedor and Anderson Silva threads…

    • T3chn3tnium says:

this is possibly fight of the year. that being said Jones via submission/ground and pound. reason i say that is even though shogun is a possibly the best muay thai fighter in the world, has he ever fought someone with this kind of reach? someone with unpredictable combos? someone who is 10x the better grappler/wrestler? someone who can throw anyone on the ground at will? this fight will end up on the ground somehow with jones on top. its whatever jones wants to do from there, vicious ground and pound with those deadly elbows or maybe a triangle arm choke.

My vision of the world has been rocked by this stunning revelation.

      • jcohl says:

        @bsbiz.
        Nice.
And MY vision is still blurred, yet here I am trying to contribute to the site, and suss out where I left Bree…

    • Butters says:

Rua has more experience than Jones or any of the opponents he has faced thus far. Jones’ bones have yet to be tested; he hasn’t really ever taken a beating. Rua recently broke Sports sciences record for most powerful kick at 2,749 lbs of force – it’ll be interesting (for our sake) to see how jones handles himself. Rua in second round via submission.

    • Crowzus says:

      What’s a sherdog?;p

  • Jason says:

I have to admit that Jones is a very well spoken fighter, which is great for the sport. I am very impressed with his composure and how his main objective is promoting positivity. It is motivating to see that he begins with the end in mind and has the intellect of asking the Universe for what he wants. Squeaky wheel always gets the grease! Ask and thou shall receive albeit he has to get through Shogun.

Changing my pick, Bones by KO

  • ferdayz says:

Rua at least HAD pretty good bjj, especially with his sweeps. i see this as an interesting striking game with plenty of time spent on the ground.

I would have liked to JJ to fight another top contender before the belt… but so many are hurt. I’m pretty sure forest would be crushed by him. A super fight between JJ vs Silva would be sick. that would really test his striking and mma wrestling.
