Rua looks sharp, but honestly who doesn’t look sharp in training?
I can’t imagine how Rua is going to prepare for an opponent like Jon Jones, who seems to be making it all up as he goes along in terms of his fightstyle.
This situation reminds me a little of Lesnar-Mir 2.
If you all recall Mir looked like he was going to handle Lesnar again in videos, and got silverback’ed bloody and stupid in spite of coming to the cage with a build like a superhero.
There wasn’t a training partner on the planet that could help Mir prepare for an opponent with Lesnar’s physical gifts and weirdly-specific style, and I get the same vibe with Rua-Jones.
Usually guys bring in training partners to ape their opponent’s style, but who the fu<k can Rua get that has Jones' insane reach?
Who else out there creates MMA offense out of what look like bad positions?
Other than GSP, I haven't seen an MMA fighter, anywhere, ever, who shifts gears as cleanly as Jones does between striking and grappling and submissions.
At 128 Rua needs Jones to make a major mistake almost immediately, and then he needs to unload on him like his life depends on it.
At least his life as UFC 205 champion.
Because once that cage door shuts, Rua's reign as champ will be measured in minutes…
Wrong
Its the reality!
@luis
Why don’t you let Shogun Rua prove me “wrong”, instead of you posting under me and embarrassing yourself?
At least you should have waited for that sh!t until 128 was actually over.
THEN it would have been funny and actually got some traction.
Instead it looks like a lame one-word post sitting under mine, which is sort of funny in and of itself.
How stupid are you going to feel and look posting that under me if Jones throttles Rua just like he has everyone else he’s fought?
Think it thru next time…
@Luis
And now you see what I was talking about.
Do us both a favor pal, and NEVER prematurely post “Wrong” under me again, ok?
It’ll be much obliged, and probably spare you future embarrassment…
Play nice, please.
@bsbiz
Yes sir…
“Usually guys bring in training partners to ape their opponent’s style, but who the fu<k can Rua get that has Jones' insane reach?"
Cyrile Diabate and Alistair Overeem were way taller and had more of a reach of Jones. Now im not comparing those guys with Jones because Jones is a better fighter than who they were when they originally fought Rua. Just an example.
@Jcohl
That was a response for you, and I should really proof-read my stuff!
Agree/Disagree I believe Jone’s striking and reach are obvious advantages. However sticking your chin out and up in the air (as jones does quite often when striking, grappling, etc.) to a pin point accurate striking phenom like Rua is a death wish. Also, Jone’s has a BAD … I mean BAD habit of leaving his limbs exposed when grappling and on the ground (Vera fight specifically) which will be less than ideal when fighting someone with a polished jits game.
Love,
JW
Shogun will chop away at jones legs very similar to the way forrest griffin did against rampage and I think that a 5 round fight will be in shogun advantage and he will finish Jones in the 4th round
Shogun is a scary man.
John Jones is a killer.
Shall be an inserting night !!
It amazes me how many people think shoguns gonna lose. He’s shown himself to be better than Jones in every aspect bar the wrestling. Jones will need to get it to the ground fast otherwise he’ll be getting ko’d for the first time in his career.
No matter who you are rooting for, im more than positive this will be a memorable fight. (The good memorable, not the Mir vs. Crocop memorable.)
