I just watched the press conference and boy are some people clueless. A guy asked John Jones if he really thinks he could beat Shogun. What a full.

Both fighters are very focussed but the do sure have butterflies.

the questions don’t matter, but the state of the fighter leading up to the fight sure does.

the stare down was weird. They are both nervous.

of course they are both nervous.
Looking at it from Rua’s POV, he knows he’s cage-rusty, he knows that historically he doesn’t return from injury anywhere close to his “Shogun” form, and he knows he fighting not just a vastly superior athlete, but what some would call Jones’ destiny to wear UFC 205 gold.
Thats a tall order for a guy who has only looked impressive against Lyoto Machida in the UFC.

Looking at it from Jones’ POV, he’s got to be experiencing space sickness or something considering how he’s risen so far, so fast.
The guy has dropped a grenade in the midst of not just the sport and the org, but even back at his training camp.
There is a lot of fuss and buzz about a guy who’s 23 years old and has only a couple of years in the sport.
Its also got to be a lot of pressure, similiar to what GSP referenced before stretching Dan Hardy, to have to “live up” to not just the hype and the fans expectations, but to do credit and honor to his own insane MMA abilities.

Plus Jones isn’t the first super-hyped 205er that Rua has had to step in with, and not given a lot of expectation to beat.
That fact has got to be weighing on both fighters minds pretty heavily.
And 205 is pretty much the UFC’s showcase weightclass, so I can’t imagine the immense pressure these 2 are under…

Rnd 1 – GSP man handles his way to half-mount 3 times and once into full mount before securing a deep armbar.

Rnd 3- GSP works on a Kimura which has Hardy visibly wincing in pain.

Rnd 4- GSP nearly locks in an arm triangle which has Hardy scrambling to defend his now nearly defunct arm.

      Ring a bell?
