Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez will defend his title against season two lightweight tournament winner Pat Curran at Bellator 39.
MMAFighting has confirmed the bout with Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney.
Bellator 39 will take place on April 2 but no location has been finalized for the event as of yet. The event will air live on MTV2.
Curran was expected to receive his title shot last October at Bellator 33, but was forced to pull out due to a shoulder injury. Alvarez went on to successfully defeat UFC veteran Roger Huerta in a non-title bout in front of a hometown crowd in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Alvarez (21-2) has won six-straight fights including becoming the first Bellator lightweight champion after sweeping the promotion’s season one lightweight tournament.
Curran (12-3) is riding a four fight win streak himself including wins over Toby Imada, Huerta, and Mike Ricci.
