After nearly 18 months away from MMA action, Gina Carano will return the Strikeforce this year.
During Saturday’s “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Silva” broadcast on Showtime, Carano said she would fight “soon” after recently returning to training at Xtreme Couture.
Carano (7-1) hasn’t fought since suffering a first-round TKO to Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos in August 2009, but returns after finishing Haywire, her feature film debut set for an April release.
After the event, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said Carano is targeted for a June return against an opponent to-be-determined.

i like watchin gina fight..but cyborg is jst a beast of a woman and she is gonna have to b having an off night for her to loose n e time soon..imo.
It makes sense why Dana doesn’t have women fighting in the UFC. Nobody cares about it. People only care now because Gina is good looking, but the girl can’t fight. She’s as good a fighter as Kimbo was. It’s a shame because of her looks Cyborg is brushed aside. That doesn’t happen with the guys. And because of that women’s mma is a joke.
Gina is very talented. She can beat any women in her division except cyborg

Gina is a very good fighter, she has pretty good power in her punches and kicksand good technique. I like watching her fight for many reasons: She’s hot, She’s a standup fighter, A lot of her wins are by knockout or tko, and shes very respectful to everyone in the sport. Don’t diss her, she deserves at least a little respect

A friend of mine is a photographer in Los Angeles, and works primarily for a women’s fitness clothing manufacturer.
She told me when I saw her back at Christmastime that they tried to get Gina Carano in for a shoot, and they were told her photo shooting schedule was backlogged 5 months.
Five months.
Most other female MMA fighters backlog is a week, and Cris Cyborg’s is around 3-5 weeks, due to her championship duties and travel schedule.
As it relates to Gina Carano THATS mainstream appeal, which can be transformed into legit MMA promotability IMO…

Dana White once told a bunch of us outside of Treasure Island that ANY publicity, long-term, short-term, or mid-term, is better than no publicity at all.
Right now women’s MMA in North America is more than a decade behind them men IMO, and someone like Carano can help close that gender gap…
uh huh. Her performing well will only help keep the momentum going. I hope womans mma continues to grow strong. carrano only does help the cause. I hope she does well, but I don’t foresee Cyborg being stopped by her any time soon…or later.
she looked kinda fat last night. Her first fight back will be a conditioning and cutting weight nightmare.

She did look a little thick last night ….. but that is a good thing . Now she just has to ditch that model body she has going into the Santos fight and put on some manly muscle to counter cyborg with . I still say with a few warm ups she can take the champ
There is no denying that Gina is one of the hottest women in sports. But that can only get you so far. The fact is that Gina had troubles making weight in many of her fights and often fighting women who were then fighting in lighter weight classes. Strikeforce made up the 145lb class just so Gina would make weight and there be no controversies. She is a good fighter but wouldn’t say great.

Wishful thinking perhaps but it would be a good fight, it would have to be at 145.
