Despite being scheduled to face Brian Stann at UFC 130 in May, Wanderlei Silva instead wants a rematch with recent middleweight title challenger Vitor Belfort, “The Axe Murderer” recently told Tatame:
“And now, where are you running to? I’d give him the number one (on the line to fight me) easily, I’m challenging him … I want him”
Belfort knocked out Silva in just 44-seconds in their first meeting at “UFC: Ultimate Brazil” in 1998, a highlight that resurfaced in recent months to promote Belfort’s challenge of middleweight champ Anderson Silva.
With Belfort suffering a first-round knockout to Silva last Saturday at UFC 126 and Silva hesitant to fight Stann in May, should the UFC instead book the rematch between the Brazilian rivals for later this summer?
