Ohio-natives Jorge Gurgel and Roger Bowling are expected to fill undercard slots at the upcoming “Strikeforce: Columbus” event.
The event is set for March 5 in Columbus, Ohio and features a main event light heavyweight title bout between champion Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante and Dan Henderson.
MMAWeekly reports that the two local fighters will square off against opponents to be determined. Sources, however, state that a likely opponent for Gurgel is another local fighter out of Dayton, Tyler Combs.
Gurgel is coming off two straight losses against Billy Evangelista and K.J. Noons after the lightweight’s lone Strikeforce win against Conor Heun in June 2009.
Bowling, meanwhile, is 1-1 in Strikeforce, splitting a two-fight series with Bobby Voelker. The welterweight is expected to face Josh Thornburg at Strikeforce: Columbus.
Bowling most recently competed this past October, losing in the second round via TKO to Voelker.
An additional undercard bout expected is Brian “The Predator” Rogers versus Cincinnati fighter Mojo Horne.
Also confirmed for the Showtime-televised main card are a women’s 135-pound title fight between champion Marloes Coenen and Miesha Tate, a middleweight bout pitting Tim Kennedy vs Luke Rockhold, and a lightweight fight pitting undefeated Billy Evangelista vs Jorge Masvidal.
