Fresh off a first-round knockout of Evan Dunham at Satuday’s UFC Fight for the Troops 2, rising lightweight Melvin Guillard says he’d “destroy” fellow contender Kenny Florian, who recently called Guillard out, and instead wants a “tougher challenge” in his next fight.
“I like Kenny but he’s had his shot twice. He had his time and he blew it.” Guillard told Five Knuckles. “Of course he’s calling me out now, I just knocked out Dunham who on paper was ranked higher than me. Honestly, I’m the guy to beat.
“At the end of the day, I’m going to fight who I think deserves to fight me. It’s no disrespect to Kenny, but he doesn’t have that “X” factor. He can’t break through that wall, that barrier, so I’d rather fight some other guys. Truthfully, I would destroy Kenny Florian. I’m looking past him. I want a tougher challenge.”
With Florian expected to return to UFC action from a knee injury in May or June should he face Guillard, or should “The Young Assassin” get his wish to fight another lightweight contender?
