UFC Fight Night 13: Florian vs. Lauzon, Hamill vs. Bonnar Potential Co-Main Events

Major details have begun to emerge regarding UFC Fight Night 13 which is tentatively slated for April 2nd. Here’s what we know about the event so far (via MMA Junkie):
- No bout agreements have been signed but it appears Kenny Florian will take on Joe Lauzon in a lightweight main event while Matt Hamill may face Stephan Bonnar in a light heavyweight co-main event.
- The event will take place April 2nd and will air, as usual, on Spike TV. It will also serve as the lead-in for the seventh, all-middleweight season of The Ultimate Fighter which features Forrest Griffin and Quinton Jackson as coaches.
- No location or venue has been determined though MMA Junkie suggests Denver, Colorado is a potential location. Earlier this year MMAFrenzy.com broke news regarding a fall-2007 UFC Fight Night event that would be potentially held in Colorado at the University of Colorado’s 5,000-seat Magnass Arena. Though that event never materialized The Magnass Arena as well as the 20,000-seat Pepsi Center are among the potential venues if the UFC holds the event in Denver. The UFC’s first two events were held in Denver though the UFC has not held an event in the state since 1995.
- No other rumored fighters for the card have been confirmed though if the event is ultimately held in Colorado a number of current UFC fighters have ties to the state including Nate Marquardt and Corey Hill.

those 2 fights sound sweet cant wait 2 see this
The Hamil/Bonnar fight should be a barn burner, but why is Florian, coming off that spanking of Din Thomas, fighting somone as low on the totem pole as Lauzon? Why isn’t he fighting Tyson Griffin or Frankie Edgar?
I hope that the Florian-Lauzon match happens. Kenny went on record to say that he finishes fights, but he won’t be able to have his way with Lauzon, he’s too slick for that. I see Joe winning this one by referee stoppage late in the first or early in the second round.
hey johnny i would`nt say lauzon is that low i think some people are forgetting how good this kid is, hes 3-0 in the ufc an scored a win over jens pulver so`s hes no mug, i think it would be a good fight and ide give it to joe via choke in 2nd.
ide also say this is a must win for bonnar!
thats if these fights are true anyway haha
I know he beat Pulver, but that’s the only notable thing he’s done, besides losing in the second round of TUF. IDK, I have alot of respect for Florian and think he should be fighting Edgar or Griffin, then Stevenson for the belt.
Karo Parisyan said on Inside MMA show on HDNet that he could be fighting at The Palms in early April against either Marcus Davis or Thiago Alves. So if that fight were to go down it would probably be on this same card. Unless they decided to go with these 2 fights as the headliners instead.
I hope Kenny beats up that guy with those strange ears.
Lethal – There’s also a UFC show April 19th in Montreal. If Karo would be on this card I think it’d be because another fight wasn’t booked because that’s be too much starpower imo. Plus they like to stick with fighters who were built on the show.
It’s too bad Lauzon vs. Florian couldn’t take place in MA…the guys are only about 20 mins. apart in Westwood & Bridgewater.
It seems like a big step up for Lauzon and a step down for Florian. I think Lauzon can probably hang with the big boys of the LW division but he hasn’t proven himself. Seriously, Lauzon gets a shot at someone like Florian before Huerta does?
I’m sayin man. Florian and Huerta would be an amazing fight. I don’t see Lauzon doing much more than running. Definitely a step down.
Huerta is taking time off though
I like both fights and while I think Lauzon has a big future in the UFC, I’ll have to go with Kenny in this one.
Hamill > Bonnar
Florian > Lauzon
they might as well start calling these TUF Fight Night.
TUF Fight Night – Good one. Lauzon is a good fighter and may beat Florian. Kenny Florian is overrated and will never be champion at 155.
Hamill will prolly outwrestle Bonnar if their match goes to the ground. As for Lauzon vs. Florian, don’t sleep on Joe Lauzon. He finishes fights. This will prolly be a tough one for Kenny.
Kenflo is a great LW fighter, but I think he’s not beefy enough to handle the likes of Sherk. I think that if he got on one 8 week cycle, then he could come back and beat Sherk that way. I think Kenny ill in this fight pretty decisively, but the other fight… well, I like Hamill as much as the next guy, but he barely out boxed Bisping. Bonnar is a much better all around fighter than Bisping, yes I said it. He’s longer and a much better submission guy. I think that Bonnar could give Hamill a lot of trouble. Good fights though. I like the TUF fight night theme.
if any of these fighter are overrated its KenFlo.. come on 7-3 record with his only notable win being over sam stout..
Lauzon is like 15-3 training with the prodigy.. his long lanky and FINISHES fights as well.
Johnny to say Joe is gonna do nothing but run is kinda crazy man.. dude has got 3 loses in 18 or 19 fights and has never been to a decision.. you don’t get that by running. but i do think this will be a good contest.. if it even happens..
Saying Joe is gonna do nothing but run was a little crazy, but you gotta admit, win or lose, Joe hasn’t fought the level of guys Florian has (Stout, Diego Sanchez, Din). Not to mention I could never see Lauzon going five exciting rounds with Sherk like KenFlo did.
Either way, it should be a decent fight.
I can’t stand Florian. He is so skinny and weak, all he does is pull guard and tries to get a doctor stoppage by slice his opponents’ face with his elbow. I hope Lauzon GnP’s the hell out of him like Sherk did.
florian has not beaten one good overall mma fighter besides din thomas by knee injury, and i think lauzon could easily win this fight. id expect huerta vs. frankie edgar at some point too which could be very similar to the guida v. huerta fight except edgar has better standup
i like kenny for this match against lauzon. i think kenny has gotten more agressive in the ring. i think his fight against din was wrong. din is a very over rated fighter. and what is that stupid dance he does after he wins?
