Paulo Thiago has been forced to withdraw from his UFC on Versus 3 fight against Johny Hendricks with an undisclosed injury less than one day after the welterweight matchup was made official for the March 3 event in Louisville.
Hendricks’ Team Takedown management announced the news Wednesday night.
After winning 3 of his first 4 fights inside the Octagon, Thiago (13-3) was looking to rebound from back-to-back losses to Martin Kampmann and Diego Sanchez, while Hendricks (9-1) fell to Rick Story in December following a 4-0 UFC start.
Hendricks now awaits a new opponent for UFC on Versus 3, which is headlined by Sanchez vs. Kampmann, while it is not yet known how long Thiago will be sidelined.
