The title fight is expected to headline Strikeforce: Columbus on March 5 in Columbus, Ohio.
“That’s the fight that we’re training for. It should be a good fight. Feijao and Dan Henderson, that’s gonna be a great bout,” Soares stated.
Feijao became light heavyweight champion at Strikeforce: Houston this past August with a TKO win over Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal. Henderson earned a title shot with his own impressive knockout victory over fellow veteran, Renato “Babalu” Sobral, in December at Strikeforce: Henderson vs Sobral II.
Strikeforce: Columbus has yet to be confirmed by the promotion but is expected to take place on March 5 at the Nationwide Arena and will coincide with the Arnold Sports Festival.
The UFC occupied that spot for several years, holding events in Columbus during the Festival from 2007-2009. The UFC did not hold an event during the Festival last year, instead allowing that spot to be occupied by the WEC.
Another rumored match up for the Showtime-televised event is Tim Kennedy vs Jason “Mayhem” Miller. Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez, Jorge Gurgel, and Paul Daley are also rumored to be participating in the event.
