If I'm Dana (and I'm certainly not), my thinking is like this... I offer the guy (Fedor) a huge contract. My only stipulation is that it be exlusive, because if you lose outside the UFC, I can't market the guy who beats you. If I accept this "cross-promotion" I'm going against everything I've stood for (no tournaments and no non-exclusive fighters). It opens a whole can of worms for my other fighters. I don't need 15 guys under contract all coming to me tomorrow wanting to do this and that because of this one fight. I'm the one taking the risk (risk of promoting a rival company, risk of promoting a rival company's top fighter). I've said "anything is possible" but it has to be under my terms or I won't make the fight happen in the UFC, end of story. If they want to go fight each other in freaking Antarctica 3 years from now, I could give a shit, and so will most of the MMA world. (end of me pretending to be Dana) Let’s review;

Dana could not have done what he did with the TUF show without the likes of Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell, and the fan base that they had already built before the "new fans" jumped aboard. I agree that Dana is due a lot of credit, but don't take credit away from the fighters either.
