Apparently, there were several more ideas thrown around for the 13th season of the The Ultimate Fighter than already widely known.
One idea would have pitted eventual The Ultimate Fighter 13 coach Brock Lesnar against fellow former champ and UFC hall of famer Randy Couture.
Dave Meltzer reports that Lesnar vs. Couture was one initial idea being thrown around by the UFC for the upcoming season before heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was sidelined to due injury.
The idea fell apart due to Couture’s upcoming acting obligations, including the action movie “Set Up” alongside Ryan Phillippe, Bruce Willis and 50 Cent, which is set to be released in 2011.
Once Velasquez announced his injury, the natural matchup between Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos fell into place. The coaches are expected to fight on an as of yet unannounced UFC 131 on June 11, 2011 in Vancouver to determine the next contender for Velasquez’s title.
Meanwhile, Couture returns to the cage at UFC 129 to face former UFC light heavyweight champion, Lyoto Machida. That event occurs on April 30, 2011 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario.
