According to MMAjunkie.com, former UFC Middleweight Champion Rich Franklin has suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee, and will not be able to compete until June of 2008 at the earliest. This obviously means that Franklin will not be facing off against Travis Lutter at UFC 82, a match which was apparently agreed upon only one day prior to Franklin reporting his injury. Franklin’s injury is not the first of its kind however, as Rich reportedly suffered a meniscus tear in the same knee several years earlier during a UFC bout. Franklin is said to be heading to Las Vegas to undergo a corrective surgery, which will likely take place during the first week of January. This news helps explain the last piece of news regarding Rich Franklin, where he stated that he had not, in fact, officially signed on to fight anyone for the March Pay Per View event.
