Lightweight Charles Oliveira has signed a four fight extension with the UFC despite suffering his first professional loss to 155-pound contender Jim Miller at UFC 124 in December, Oliveira recently told the Houston MMA Examiner.
Oliveira was relieved by the news due to the recent string of cuts following the WEC division being folded into the UFC, stating:
“They have been cutting so many 155 pounders, I am very blessed to have a job for 2011.”
Oliveira is 2-1 in the UFC now and has been involved in a “submission of the night” performance in all three fights. Oliveira commented on his recent loss and his aggressive style as well:
“I was very aggressive and went for some big moves early in the fight. I threw a big head kick, went for 2 arm bars, a triangle and a leg lock. It’s my style and I still believe if I stay aggressive good things happen,I have had 3 UFC fights and every one has gotten submission of the night, two for me and one against me. I like being in those types of fights that do not go to decision, and I believe that’s what the UFC and the fans want. To make an exciting fight is important. I was very upset with my first loss, but I have learned a lot and will be better for my next fight. Jim Miller is one of the best 155 pounders the UFC has, and I know now what level I have to be at to be one of the best.”
