i belive that is called a “sick” card
The 1 main thing i love about this card is the fact that all 3 of those fights could be won by any of those 6 men, 1 punch is all it will take to change any of those figts, gunna be an amazing night :)
I agree with you for the most part, one exception…Griffen isn’t exactly known for his KO power, I know he’s ended a few fights by tko/ko, but it’s probably not that likely.
“the best fighter in the world”, has already met his match and got his ass kicked. so get that BS out.
Agreed! imo Silva isn’t “the best fighter in the world”.
yes he must’ve got his ass kicked. He certainly didn’t get his face bashed in. OH and he won that fight by sub and a sub off his back no less. This legend of Chael just won’t go away….HE TAPPED!!
Our Canadian Junior Hockey team just pulled a Chael. In Buffalo, We were steaming along the whole tournament. Right up to leading the Russians 3-0 going into the third. It was like Chael Sonnen got into our dressing room and gave the team one of his “pep” talks. We had a total MELTDOWN in the third and lost 5-3. Dang. Congrats to Russia though, they definately were the comeback kids. Would that count as winning for us. you know, cause we were doing so good…right up til when we lost.
While Silva showed how great of a champion he is, with an amazing comeback win, he was exposed as being vulnerable. The blueprint for beating Silva has been lain out. The matchmakers will have to be more careful when they choose his opponents. No more Wrestlers! He is too easy to take down, and hold down. Belfort is a far better matchup for him.
GSP, if he is strong enough, can dominate Silva for 5 COMPLETE rounds to get the victory.
I was in no way saying that Anderson is not a great fighter, he is. His striking is phenomenal, lots of power with uncanny accuracy. But what Chael did in their fight (imo) was show that he is not as well rounded a fighter as the A.S. supporters seem to think. If he can start stuffing takedowns with some obvious wrestling training I might start to change my mind.
Is he one of the best fighters around? Sure he is, one of the best ever.
Is he the most well-rounded figther? imo no!
Jon jones will be the best fighter in the world!..lol imo i think this kid has got the “it” factor..great attitude awsome skills big i think he is gunna get to the top and hang around for a bit.
LOL.
I’m sorry, but I just can’t help it.
I STILL read posts discussing who the “p4p king” of MMA is, a topic we’ve discussed to death both here at the main page and over at the forums.
At this stage of the game I’m pretty sure that the UFC hype machine throws that bogus tag on A Silva to sell fights, and get the fanbase energized for said fights.
And guess what.
Its working ;-)
Because Dana White and the rest of the UFC front office would MUCH rather the fans argue about this p4p sh!t rather than try and suss out how men like Belfort and Hardy and Jake Shields are handed title shots.
The LAST thing the UFC wants is its fans thinking.
They want you drinking, and paying, and sounding off about the beauty of “ultimate fighting”.
DW & Co. turn no profit in fans trying to make sense of it all, so why encourage it?
The beauty of the Internet, and by extension sites like the frenZy, is that anyone can believe anything they like at anytime on any subject.
“Fedor is the best”
“Anderson Silva is the best”
“GSP is the best”
Whatever.
My old man and his crew have a saying that goes, “whatever gets you thru the night”, which means believe whatever you like, because in the end it doesn’t really matter.
I’m as guilty as anyone else for buying into the p4p premise, and buying in big.
After giving it a lot of thought, I’m pretty much convinced that its all bullsh!t, designed to sell tickets and get mouths moving.
There is no conceivable reasonable metric by which such a “title” could be determined, and no actual benefit to the “crowning” of such a champion even if it were possible.
We could in theory create some uber-complicated 100 point rating system and grade each fighter on it, but no 2 people can agree on whats what, and what takes priority.
Think about how long it take you to bang out a game character, and now try transposing that methodology onto a real live athlete, and doing it in a consensus.
Best of luck with that.
I’m done with it all.
In 2011 I’m going to do what I used to do. Sit back, enjoy the fights, discuss them with people who know the sport, and try to clue in the people that don’t.
Makes life much easier that way…
;-)
I agree!
In reality there is no P4P king. Different fighters are great for (usually) different reasons/skills/abilities. Silva is a great striker, GSP is a great wrestler, Fedor is probably the most well rounded of the bunch but who’s to say he’s better than someone in another weight class?
Anyone wanting to determine the “best fighter in the world” can go out and buy Undisputed 2010 like everybody else…
;-)
This is an awesome card – I can’t wait… Superbowl weekend just got better! Silva will likely take this one but it will give us an insight into vitor. What happens with the winner of griffin/Franklin?? Another title shot?? Why not… Vitor didn’t really have to do much to get a shot
Every time I scroll by that picture of Anderson I think of the I, Robot movie poster.
@cc -
So what, you foresee Anderson Silva standing over the prone body of Vitor Belfort in the Octagon, and his first comment to Joe Rogan will be, “I did not murder him!”
;-)
Jchol,
I think if Vitor can unleash one of his famous attacks and land 2 solid shots Anderson goes to sleep in the first …….. I give Vitor a shot at it all the way up until the middle of the second round . And if for some reason Silva is there in it after that point he will outslick Belfort for the remainder of the fight .
