“I believe by the end of this year, we will be in the pay-per-view business,” Coker stated on the Sherdog Radio Network’s “Beatdown” show. Coker went on to state that while the plan for Strikeforce’s recently announced heavyweight tournament is for the quarterfinals to air on Showtime, the semifinals and finals could ultimately air on pay-per-view. “I think that the goal with this tournament is to eventually work its way into the pay-per-view business,” Coker stated.
The recently announced heavyweight grand prix tournament pits eight of Strikeforce’s top heavyweights, including current Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem, against each other in a year-long single elimination tournament. Strikeforce has aired two previous events on CBS but has primarily aired it’s cards on Showtime since 2009. The fight promotion has yet to enter the pay-per-view business.
