Lavar Johnson and Shane Del Rosario will meet in a reserve bout for Strikeforce’s heavyweight tournament when it kicks off on Feb. 12 in East Rutherford, New Jersey, according to MMAjunkie.
A heavyweight matchup between Ray Sefo and Valentijn Overeem is also in the works for event’s preliminary card.
The Showtime-televised event is headlined by an opening round matchup between Fedor Emelianenko and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and also include an Andrei Arlovski vs. Sergei Kharitonov quarterfinal..
The tournament also includes heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem defending his title again Fabricio Werdum and Josh Barnett’s Strikeforce debut against Brett Rogers.

I was wondering if Del-Rosario was gonna be in the tourney, fine addition!
I can’t understand the seeding in this tournament unless its to get Fedor and Overeem to fight asap in the 2nd round to avoid backing out or injuries. Very odd regardless, out of principle they should be set to meet in the finals, providing they win their fights. Still kind of hope things go wrong and one of the reserves pulls a Steve Jennum UFC 3 tourney win.

This is the first I’ve heard of this problem, but that doesn’t mean other aren’t seeing it too. Do you have an MMAFrenzy.com account, or you’re just filling in your name and email in your comments?
I really hope this isn’t a case of Strikeforce’s reach exceeding their grasp, because if they can pull this off it would be major IMO…
Anyone else think its weird that given the right circumstances, we might see Overeem vs Overeem in the tourney?

At first when I read this I thought it meant Alistair was going to be on the Jersey card. If that was true I was about to buy front row tickets.
I heard the UFC were staging an event in the small town of Chorley which is where I reside. I wasn’t 100% sure where i’d heard this as if such a scenario were true I would but front row tickets.
Sadly I had imagined the whole thing in a dream.
This tournament is coming together..Some ppl may not completely agree with the seeding or structure but the bottom line is that fans are going to get to see some really good SF HW fights
