Michael Bisping Moving Down to 185
Prior to his fight with Rashad Evans back at UFC 78, Michael “The Count” Bisping mentioned on a number of occasions that he would consider dropping down to 185 if he were to lose that fight. Bisping went on to lose the fight with Evans by a very close split decision and the idea of dropping down to the UFC’s middleweight division has plagued his mind ever since.
The UFC has announced today that England’s very own Michael Bisping has officially decided to make the drop in weight class. Touted by close friends as rather small for light heavyweight, Bisping believes that this will be the right move for his career.
Bisping told the UFC, “At middleweight, I will be just as strong if not stronger than my opponent and, without carrying this extra 20 pounds, I will be fitter than I am at light heavyweight. I just think the time is right to move down.”
In spite of being very successful at light heavyweight, Bisping maintains that he has never had to go through the vigorous dieting that other fighters do in order to make weight. As a matter of fact, after nearly a month away from training and eating whatever he pleases, Bisping currently weighs only 211 lb.
Bisping’s move down to 185 will definitely give the UFC’s least populated weight division a much needed jolt. He joins the likes of Dan Henderson and Ricardo Almeida as some of the new exciting fighters that will add some new blood to the UFC’s middleweight division. In regards to making weight at 185, Bisping replied, “I’m a little nervous about it, of course I am. I know I can make 185 pounds if I dieted like every other fighter, but at the same time I’ve never asked my body to do it.”
Bisping is expected to make his UFC middleweight debut in the spring of 2008.

This is great news. I would love to see him fight a guy like Nate Quarry or Jason MacDonald in his debut at 185.
Yeah, I think that Nate, or a Scott Smith or Pete Sell would be a good first run.
I would probablly see Smith before the other two.
good news bisping can be a force at middleweight.hes a good striker and has decent ground game and lets face it anyone else who wants to move into this division is much needed.
Please let him fight Rich. That would be a dream matchup for me!
Scott Smith just signed with another organization I believe, so thats out. Funny he says now is the best time to move down to 185. Actually I think before he suffered a loss would have been the best time. Now it looks kinda like a retreat. I’m surprised that more Lt Heavies don’t drop in weight and realize the opportunities in the 185 lb division. Almost any respectable Lt Heavy should be able to get a title shot after just one win in 185.
I love the suggestions you made scotchydow. I am a big fan of Pete Sell, so I would love to see the two fo them throw down.

sell i am not sure if they will bring him back he is like 1-4 or 1-3 in the ufc good fighter but .
why not give him somebody like demian maia or kendall grove
Ed Herman’s riding a 3 fight winning streak, including a victory over Smith. That’s who I’d like to see him fight in his first 185 UFC match.
Biatchhhhh!
Just realized he won’t go anywhere at 205, and the same is true of 185.
he’s going to rule 185lbs with an iron fist.
HE IS A LIL **** HE IS AFRAID OF REMATCH WITH HAMMIL
rematch with Hammil? not worth the time.
James C and the truth talkin ****, Bisping gonna rule 185 bring on the spider now !!!!!!!!!
sounds like hoppys hopped up on some **** cuz bispings biatch
He doesn’t need a rematch with Hammil. He already lost to him, why lose again? When you can run to the weak MW division. Give him A. Silva right off the bat, then let him run to the KOTC, once he loses 3 in a row.
It’s about time. After reading that article on UFC.com it sounds like his eating habits aren’t the best. I’ve always thought Bisping looked a little chubby compared to other LHWs and dropping to 185 and cutting the extra weight will probably do wonders for him.
I think any of Scotchydow’s suggestions would make a good first fight.
holy_dave i think u needs to keep off the drugs mate bisping beat hammil an in my eyes beat rashad evens. an at 185 hes going to be unstoppable, only person that will cause him trouble will be henderson but i no were my money would still go! come on the count do it for england!
