“War Machine” Pleads Guilty to Assault
The Ultimate Fighter 6 castmember Jon “War Machine” Koppenhaver plead guilty to assault charges on Thursday stemming from a September incident outside the Undisputed Fitness Center in San Diego where Koppenhaver is a trainer, according to a report by The San Diego Union-Tribune:
[Koppenhaver] choked a Las Vegas man unconscious and hit him in the face outside San Diego’s Undisputed fitness and training center early Sept. 2
Koppenhaver also faced a battery charge, but that was dismissed as part of a plea agreement reached during the preliminary hearing Thursday afternoon.
Judge Frank Brown said the change in plea could result in a misdemeanor punishment. [The victim Darren] Zatkow told the court he thought a reduced punishment was OK because he believed a felony conviction would destroy Koppenhaver’s career.
Koppenhaver is scheduled to be sentenced on February 7th.

That’s too bad. I really felt bad for war machine, but when incidents like this take place, you lose respect for a fighter if he takes it to the street. Choking a guy out? He needs to talk out his frustrations with someone.
“I wanna be like BJ, a real MMA star” says Koppenhaver.
Not really, I made that quote up if you didn’t know.
Eric is right, this is a sad story. We cannot rush to judge War Machine. We do not know what that man did to put him in a position where he felt that was the correct option.
I am only a guy who trains, no pro, but I wouldn’t take the measures War Machine is rumored to have taken if unless a dude made me worried for my own health or my family.
If War Machine did this just to act “tough” he needs some mental help to work out his issues. We’ve all had tough backgrounds and it’s no excuse for dangerous conduct like War Machine is being accused of.
I won’t judge until we no more. It sounds like the “victim” knows he had it coming.
I agree Eric that this is sad. War Machine seems to have a nice future ahead of him; I wish this is the last time he messes up like this.
This is word for word from Koppenhavers UFC.com profile…
“…What is your favorite technique?
Choke you out and then slap you in the
face…haha!..inside joke =)…”
I did NOT add the smiley face, this douche should have had the book thrown at him.
wow that blows he had a good fight the other week and now he can be in prison 4 up 2 7 years
None of this is alligations. He plead guilty. Sucks, but he’s guilty. He’s also lucky that the victim allowed him to plea down to a lesser charge. He should get off fairly lightly, most of the jail should be suspended, and he WILL definately have some anger management classes in his future. All of this obviousely happened before the fight with J-Rock, but after the show?
I never liked him. He walked around like he was the biggest badass in the house and he wasnt even really supposed to be there. As far as this goes….I could care less. I want to see him fight more, so I hope they let him off. There are guys in the UFC I want to see win, and there are guys in the UFC that I dont like that I want to see lose…he is one of those.
FixXer, you nailed it. I didn’t care for him on the show and care less for him now. He’s his own wost enemy. Hopefully he doesn’t lose any more brain cells and gets a clue.
there is little doubt, after watching him on the show, that he is a few bricks short of a load! mentally, he is a wreck! i was much more impressed with this last fight over his lackluster performance on the show. i could say these same things about j-rock as well…
You can hope he loses I cheer against the nick and nate diaz, but he would destroy you and you know this man. He had to walk around like a badass if you don’t think you are the most badass guy on the show even if you are an alt you shouldn’t be there. On the show he was out matched by a guy with “retard strenght” and he never gave up throwing punches from his back instead giving up.
