Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen won’t be coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 13, but the UFC middleweight contenders will likely square off early next year, especially after their latest war of words.
Silva began the exchange by saying he “killed” Sonnen in training in a recent interview:
“With Sonnen, he is more wrestling [based]. I trained with him one time at Xtreme Couture and I killed him there. I think he is a good opponent for me,” Silva said. “I think its fun, no? Because sometimes I talk, we talk, its making the fight more interesting. I like to talk about my opponents, no problem. I am not afraid of anybody. I’ve fought with heavyweights, light-heavyweights… for me its no problem, I fight with all!”
Sonnen shot back viciously last night on Twitter:
“You killed who? I was taking it easy on you. Ya looked like Tammy Faye Baker. I went easy so that new face of yours wouldn’t fall off,” Sonnen wrote. “More guys have worked on your face than it took to build the Pyramids. You look like Lisa Rinna w/a Leprechaun beard, you fool. You are a walking punchline. Go fight what’s left of Sakuraba in an alley behind a sushi place in Tokyo for 10 Yen apiece. If it wasn’t for me, you would be thrashing around the jungle w/a blowgun trying’ to catch breakfast.
“So a word to the UNWISE. DON’T TALK ABOUT ME. You don’t have the words, I DO. You just got burried. Now run along or I’ll do worse tomorrow. Wanna talk some more about killing me in the gym, y’idiot? You’re lucky your brother Joe’s the matchmaker or you’d be sellin’ barbecued monkey on the street in Manaus.”
The potential fight would likely take place in March or April after Silva (33-10-1) recovers from knee surgery following his 185-pound debut over Michael Bisping in February and Sonnen (25-11-1) returns from his drug test suspension after an August loss to middleweight champ Anderson Silva.

Now I’m pretty sure you have that completely a$$ backwards, and here’s why. Name a wrestler anywhere remotely close to skill level as Chael Sonnen that Wanderlai has fought. In fact there are two. Tito and Henderson. Both of which defeated Silva pretty handily, and without controversy. Chael, imo, wrestles better than Tito, and sets up his takedowns with better striking than Henderson. In fact, other than a flash KO that lands perfectly, I don’t see how Wanderlai possibly wins against Chael at this point in both mens careers.
Belfort on the other hand defeated Rich Franklin quicker than Anderson could, which at least suggests that Belfort can do things with his striking that Anderson cannot.
Can Belfort defeat Anderson…Maybe, and maybe not.
Can Wanderlai get past Chael if they fight? Other than flash Serra-esque KO, no. If you see some other way it could possibly be Anderson vs Wandy, please let us know.

It does make sense. What he means is if it wasn’t for Chael, than Wanderlei would not have a fight, so he wouldn’t be making money. Meaning he would than be so poor he would have to go and hunt for his food in Brazil, since he has no money to afford it because he can’t get a fight.

1. Dana White himself claimed that he would not cut Stephan Bonnar or Wanderlei Silva even if he lost his fight at UFC 110 vs. Bisping because of what he had done for the sport of MMA; that being said, Silva would still have a job and would not have to go “thrashing through the jungle with a blowgun hunting for breakfast”. Therefore, Chael Sonnen’s comment does not make sense. I was not “letting my rage take control”, because this is what made sense in my head, and sorry if I’m wrong but it does make sense. Wanderlei would still have a job even if Chael Sonnen wasn’t being an idiot.
2. Chael Sonnen accused Brock Lesnar of using steroids (which he quite possibly could have in his WWE days), but this has never been proven. “You have to look up to someone like that or give them some respect and knocking them down for a health problem is very disrespectful, if it’s not intended as a joke.” – with his accusations of Brock Lesnar using steroids, I think that was “knocking him down” because his physique could have been built with only hard work (but no one knows), so Chael should have respect for Brock Lesnar, and why should I give Chael Sonnen respect when all he does is disrespect others. I don’t care if it was for health reasons, but he shouldn’t use steroids and accuse someone else of using steroids for their Hulkish physique.

You still don’t get it. It was a joke that Chael. Jokes don’t have to be totally true to be funny or make sense. It’s obvious that W.Silva will have a job, whether Chael Sonnen was alive or not. It is all a joke and if you took some time to think about it with out being angry or serious, than you would, or should understand. imo, there’s been too much trash talking in the ufc. berdering ridiculous. it can be fun for the fans sometimes, but it’s getting almost to the point that it’s actually turning me off. I really respect a fighter who does his talking in the ring. A guy like Maia for example, no need to talk…just show up, do your thing and move on!
I understand they need to sell the fight and what not, but it becomes a bit of a joke when they’re mainly yapping to sell the fight and bring attention to themselves.

Oh geeze, I hope this isn’t Wanderlei’s first fight back. I love Wandy, he is one of my all time favourite fighters, but he just doesn’t stack up well against the likes of a wrestler like Chael Sonnen. He’d be put on his back and pounded on for 15 minutes straight.
I also really enjoy Chael Sonnen’s trash talking and love when it’s directed at certain fighters I can’t stand, who are on serious ego trips and think they are so much better than everyone else.
Wanderlei is so humble and so respected and such a respectable fighter. I just don’t want to see him get involved in a mud slinging war with Sonnen. It does nothing for his career and he can’t win a war of words either.
Wanderlei, please just fight Chris Leben when you come back and pay no attention to Chael Sonnen. We want to see you stand and bang and take someone’s head off and celebrate a victory. We don’t want to see you made fun of and then get beat up while on your back for 15 mins only to suffer another loss.

Originally I thought Wand-Sonnen was TUF-worthy, but with today’s social media working overtime to turn our society into one with zero degress of separation, these 2 will be putting on a show pretty much every day.
As for the fight itself, Wand and Sonnen don’t necessarily match up too well. Unless Wand catches Sonnen early and often, he’s going to spend a lot of energy trying to shove Sonnen off of him against the fence and/or keep Sonnen of his legs and his own a$$ off of the mat.
If this fight actually gets signed, one of these guys is going to have to back up a LOT of sh!t talk, with the winner taking one giant step forward [back] into the 185 mix…
I just don’t think Wanderlei would be a good fit for TUF series due the language barrier. His English is so broken and his thick accent make it near impossible to understand anything he says. The subtitles would get annoying quickly, and unless they do a Brazilian vs American theme, it’d be hard for him to coach a team of Americans. I’m sure he’d be relying heavily on Team Wand for assistant coaching.
All in all, I love Wanderlei as a fighter. I just don’t think he fits the mold of an entertaining coach for TUF. Sonnen on the other hand would be one of the most entertaining coaches ever on the show. The comedic value would be doubled what it has been in any previous season.
Nevermind that the most interesting part of the Big Nog-Mir season was watching Vinnie Magalhaes get under Big Nog’s skin by saying he was better at BJJ.

Chael Sonnen is not a cheat and that’s a fact! He doesn’t use testosterone because he wants to, he uses it because he needs to. He’s undergoing testosterone replacement therapy, so he can have a normal level, instead of a low level. If he wasn’t taking testosterone than he couldn’t compete in MMA because of his illness. His body wouldn’t be able to handle it, it would be too weak.
Basically he’s using testosterone so he can live a normal life and also so he can compete in MMA. When he goes out there and fights his testosterone level is normal, not high. It’s the same as everyone else. He’s not using it to cheat and that’s a fact.
….And don’t forget he is shy too. Or at least that was the story at the board hearing a little while ago. :)

Your notion of fact is highly skewed. His only offense in that case was no informing the commission in a timely fashion of his treatment and schedule. Which is why his suspension was reduced. He is on a doctor’s prescribed treatment, he just neglected to say so on any of his pre-fight questionnaires.

For those that were offended by what Chael said, it’s time for you to start wearing Depends adult diapers. Chael is a master S*** talker. Do either of them really care what the other says? Probably not. All this does is build up a fan frenzy & gets more PPV’s. Wanderlei has been doing this for too long to care and Chael knows the more S*** he talks the more it will just get people to want to watch the fight and see him get punched in the face. At the end of the day it just means more $$$ for the UFC and possibly a higher bonus at the end of the night for one or both of them.

MMA’s beautiful if it’s done on a high level and with respect and reduced to a thuggery crossed with the jerry springer show when the respect is gone.
By the way the trash rarely gets under the skin of a top level athlete enough to make much difference in the actual fight. And I don’t think that people in general are beneath getting hyped for a ppv night based off of really great clips and commentary. The fact that MMA is growing more than WWE attests to that. What got me into the sport a long time ago was learning that (at that early time in MMA) the guys who won were not super hulks or bruce lee types. it’s always been the rock vs paper vs scissors factor that makes it complex and beautiful for me.
Chael last tweets were clever though he’s no milton berle or dave chappelle, or even an MMA version of rodney dangerfield.
