Shogun vs. Evans, Ortiz vs. Nogueira Moved to UFC 128 on March 19 in Newark

Mauricio Shogun RuaThe long-awaited title fight between light heavyweight champ Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and former title-holder Rashad Evans previously expected for UFC 128 is now slated for UFC 129 on March 19 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, Sportsnet reports.

With Tito Ortiz vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira also moved to UFC 129, the UFC’s plans to return to Abu Dhabi for UFC 128 are almost certainly off, but it’s not yet known whether the UFC will still host the March 12 event at a new location or rename the March 19 card.

UPDATE: The March 19 event was expected to be UFC 129, but will instead be UFC 128

Now if only I can make enough money…

Let’s hope Shogun comes out in top shape after his umpteenth knee surgery…’cause if he comes out against Evans anywhere near like he did when he faced Griffin (post knee surgery / long layoff), he’s in BIG trouble.

Finally rashad can get his belt back

i thought ufc was coming to dublin ireland on march 17th?????????

    @learntoread
I completely can see the Griffin effect on shogun in this fight unless he can come in in great shape ready for the championship rounds. I think he will and I expect him to win this fight via brutal knockout, but if Rashad comes out and fights his fight and going back to what he’s good at “wrestling”, then I can see him controlling this fight like Griffin did against Shogun, and maybe squeaking out a decision.

Lil Nog vs Ortiz in a retirement match!! Winner moves on, Loser goes home. I’m not impressed anymore with either, so I don’t see the loser in anymore ufc fights.

    Wait.
    What?
    New Jersey AGAIN?
    WTF?
Does Tony Soprano have someone put a gun in Dana White’s mouth or something?
If I lived in Atlanta or Denver I would be ready to kick someone’s a$$ so hard their nose bleeds.
I’m aware of the whole “Fu<k you to NY" thing for their deplorably slow legalization of MMA, but Zuffa is dropping Shogun-Evans on the Jersey Shore state?
    Really?

Its bad enough that GSP had to throwdown with Dan Hardy there instead of Canada, but a 205 title fight?
Well, I'll say this…at least NJ is better than Abu Dhqbi I suppose…
    ;-)

I think with Shogun being the champ, he will come into the fight in sick shape and ready to go five rounds. And to be totally honest..even if he comes in ok shape I see him getting it done against Evans. Shogun’s stand up is way better than Rashad’s, and even if Rashad gets him on his back, Shogun is no picnic there either.

I see Shogun winning either by KO/TKO/SUB by the third round.
Rashad has big power in his punches, but Shogun has really good defense.

The only way Rashad wins is by taking him down and laying on him. And Shogun will time the shot and catch him with something, or just SUB him off his back.

But this is MMA and anything can happen. And this is all just my opinion.

And I see Lil Nog out striking Tito for three rounds and sending Tito to Strikforce, or the retierment home. To tell you the truth I would like to see Tito win this one. But I just don’t see it.
Let’s hope the old Tito shows up and G&P’s Lil Nog till his nose is touching the back of his skull. (and I like Lil Nog)
I think they would give Lil Nog another chance, but not Tito.

Can’t wait to see how it goes down…

Good luck to all the fighters on the card though.

Nice card, I’ll be cheering for Shogun, per usual. Also, if I wasn’t already beginning to prepare my trip to UFC 131 in Toronto, I might of even booked a flight to NJ to see this. However, news of St. Pierre headlining the fight card in Toronto is too good to pass up :)

    War Shogun!

  • TQR says:

Ok for all the morons…I predict Shogun to stop Evans BY the third round. Not in the third….by the third.

And yes I think by TKO/KO/SUB…in other words…I think he will shut Rashad down one of the three ways, before the end of the third.

  • TQR says:

WOW…I’m sayin that Shogun is more well rounded than Rashad. He can finish the fight in many different ways. I see him stopping Rashad. In what form…I don’t know, it depends on where Rashad wants to take the fight. I just don’t see him lasting more than fifteen mins with Shogun.

Shogun can finish the fight anywhere, and I don’t think it will take him more that fifteen mins to do so.

    That make more sense?

  • rose says:

I hope Shogun comes into this fight ready to win. I think he will prepare himself for what he is up against, and lets just hope he is enough recovered from his knee surgery. I can’t wait to watch this fight in HD. Working and subscribing to DISH Network I will order the PPV in HD. I can’t wait to see this fight in a crystal clear picture.
