Featherweight Michihiro Omigawa has signed with the UFC and will challenge undefeated 145-pound contender Chad Mendes in his return to the Octagon in February or March, according to Versus.com.
Omigawa (12-8-1) fell to Matt Wiman and Thiago Tavares in a lightweight stint with the UFC that ended in 2008, but the Japanese Judo standout has won five-straight in Sengoku and DREAM to earn another chance with the promotion.
A teammate of former champ and current bantamweight contender Urijah Faber, Mendes (9-0) won four-straight inside the WEC in 2010, including a unanimous decision over Javier Vazquez last month.
The matchup will reportedly be added to February’s UFC 126 or March’s UFC 128.

Kinda thought Omigawa was coming over, the Takaya-Fernandes bout being signed was the last straw with DREAM. Plus, he probably enjoys actually being paid on time.

I expect we’ll see some Japanese talent migrate to North America as FEG slowly fades, but I wonder how long, if at all, they adapt their respective games to North American MMA…
i always like to hear of guys getting a second chance in a larger promotion…
Mendes easily wins this by UD by using those strong wrestling moves at the alpha camp
