While not the DREAM-Strikeforce match-up many were hoping for, DREAM’s Tatsuya Kawajiri and Strikeforce’s Josh Thomson will meet at DREAM’s year-end Dynamite!! card.
Since losing to Gilbert Melendez in December of 2009, Thomson has put together wins over Pat Healy, by Rear Naked Choke, and a controversial decision win over Gesias “JZ” Calvacante in October. Thomson will be looking to defeat Kawajiri and not only extend his winning streak to three fights, but also put him back into the running for a rubber match with current Strikeforce lightweight champion, Gilbert Melendez.
Tatsuya Kawajiri will be making his first appearance since a vicious submission loss to Shinya Aoki at July’s DREAM 15. The “Crusher” will be looking to regain the momentum he had before that loss, which snapped a four-fight win-streak. Kawajiri has long been considered one of the better lightweights in the world with his strong wrestling and vicious ground and pound.
This fight will provide more fireworks to the New Years Eve card that also features a DREAM featherweight title bout between champion Bibiano Fernandes and Hiroyuki Takaya.
