After suffering his third-straight loss last Saturday at UFC 123, Matt Brown supposedly avoided a likely release, then was reportedly cut by the promotion, but the fan-favorite hasn’t been dropped after all, Ariel Helwani reported Saturday night citing UFC sources.
The welterweight Brown (11-10) gained recognition on The Ultimate Fighter 7, where he lost to eventual winner Amir Sadollah, before earning a chance in the UFC after defeating Matt Arroyo at The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale.
After losing to Dong Hyun Kim, Brown won his next three, but that success would be short lived, as he went on to lose three in a row, including a second-round submission to Brian Foster at UFC 123.

what a shame, he is exciting and always brings it! brown fans will wish you all the luck!
i hope to see him back soon.
Not sure about this.
Didn’t we just read that Brown would get another fight?
No offense against ESPN and Anik, but I’d like to get something from the UFC before bidding Brown goodbye and good luck…
Yeah I thought they just said he “supposedly” cut. But then was’nt cut after all. I hope not cause Brown is a tough a$$ dude, and should get one more chance.
Good luck to him in his next fight.
I agree with all the comments so far…win, lose or draw he always brings it.
I would personally have no objection to having a guy like Brown in the UFC even if he lost 4 or 5 in a row…because he will always put everything into the fight.
I really hope he will be back.
No offense to any other MMA journalist, but I tend to lean towards Helwani if there is any question about an issue.
Hopefully this matter is put to rest, and Brown does better in his next fight…
It’s silly to believe fighters like this are given another chance and newly announced fights like paul taylor vs. gabe ruediger and recent fights between mike lullo and edson barboza are more marketable or more entertaining fights than fights like
mike massenzio vs. gerald harris
or
kimbo slice vs. gabriel gonzaga
or
chuck liddell vs. jardine (rematch)
they are unbelievably absurd, this soprt will not evolve with decisions like this
*sport*
Sure those fights cost more money, but are you gonna put in peyton manning’s backup in because he costs less?
Give the fans what they want, they want to see entertaining fights, they will pay money to see them, will they pay to see curtis painter?
I don’t think you are taking into account the UFC paradigm of the org being the best in the world and promoting the best MMA fighters and signing the best MMA fights in the world.
With no disrespect intended to any of the fighters you named, none of them can currently be said to fit into the UFC’s best of the best” mindset…
but matt brown and mike lullo and gabe ruediger are?, watch the tuf season with gabe ruediger in it where he cries and has to go in an ambulance cause he couldn’t maintain weight, right after wanting to fight “weems”, the weakest fighter on the show, not only that but getting destroyed by guillard and joe lauzon.
and matt brown loses so many fights it’s sad, and escudero knocks out cole miller, but they release escudero and keep cole miller?
makes absolutely no sense
