UFC President Dana White confirmed following the main event of The Ultimate Fighter 6 Finale that The Ultimate Fighter 1 winner Forrest Griffin will be one of the coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 7. Though he didn’t officially confirm the other coach (which will be officially announced tomorrow night during the Spike TV Video Game Awards) Griffin is expected to be opposite UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
Griffin is officially the “number-one contender” for the Light Heavyweight Championship according to the UFC President and will take on “the other coach” after the season concludes next summer.
Without revealing any specifics White also confirmed that they are “shaking things up” for the seventh season of the series.

I can’t tell ya how glad I am that Dana is going to put a hold on the light heavyweight division for another 8 months. Just have them fight already. The top ten light heavyweights are all in the UFC, there is no reason to turn TUF 7 into a commercial for this fight.
Does this mean that there will be a light Heavyweight interim champ???
A year long wait for a title match???
More BS???
I agree. I like the fight (Griffin vs Jackson) but the wait until June-Aug is a bit long. Make Liddell/Silva an interim so they can go 5 potential rounds…(rolls eyes).
Jackson had to wait anyhow(broken hand) I don’t think either Liddel or Wandy deserve the interim title, and obviously Dana doesn’t either.
Since both are recovering from injury it is a good use of such personalities; in the interm we have liddell vs silva and machida vs sokoudjou. If the 2 winners of those fights face each other afterwards then we have a clear contender for the winner of griffin vs jackson? Sounds good to me!
The UFC needs some uniformity…Sherk and Serra are not as popular as Randy and Rampage…So no interim title for the top two weightclasses. The lightweight makes sense now that Sherk was stripped (even though Dana said he believed him) but they set the precedent with Serra- if someone is unable or unwilling to defend the title in a timely fashion, you give someone else a five rounder. Don’t get me wrong, I think interim title are a stupid move that insults the audience, but the UFC has to not play favorites here.
This should be a nutty fight! Two strong guys who aren’t afraid to bring it :)
I’m really curious how they intend to “mix it up” for the next season.
