Georges vs Billy – Georges is back and was on an entirely different level than Billy. He could be one of those fighters that doesn’t win the whole thing but makes a splash in a few years.

John vs Jared – WOW. What a great fight. Those were the nastiest elbows I can remember seeing from the ground. I give War Machine his props, I didn’t care for him much on the show, but my opinion of both of these fighters changed in under 15 minutes last night. Great job by both and I look forward to seeing them again. Good thing they had a delay for John’s post fight interview, although I did hear an f-bomb sneak through.

Mac vs Tommy – I knew when I looked at the weigh-ins the other day and saw Mac at 168.5 that he would win. Tommy had to cut a lot of weight and with Mac fighting at his “walk-around weight” that it would be an advantage. He saw a weakness, devised a gameplan, executed it perfectly and won in quick fashion. Mac at 155 will be interesting but I really would have liked to see him challenge at 170. I don’t know that Tommy or George will challenge at 170 but I thought that Mac could. I guess we’ll see.

Roger vs Clay – Clay is one of those guys I put on my radar when I first saw him fight and he did nothing to make me change my mind about him. He always entertains, throws caution to the wind, eats punches and punishes opponents. Roger was smart to come out the way he did in the 3rd and take care of business because he lost those first 2 rounds (IMO). Full props to him and that put him in my top 5 in the UFC Lightweight division. I’d really like to see him face Joe Lauzon next in a match of undefeated (in the UFC) contenders or take on Kenny Florian. Guida, I just want to see him fight again. I don’t care if he never wins a a belt in the UFC, I just like what he brings to every fight and I think the UFC and its fans do too.

The Announcement – it was a little anti-climatic when Dana didn’t announce it in the ring. I guess on a PPV you can make the announcements whenever you want because you don’t need to keep the audience tuned. On Spike, they want ratings, so they waited until the end to make the announcement (after the crowd had dispersed). Forrest vs Jackson in TUF 7 and then for the title. If Jackson wins and Wanderlei can beat Chuck, it’ll set up Jackson vs Wanderlei later in 2008. I can’t wait!

Final Thoughts – Great fights, a lot of passion in the ring and a few good personalities for the UFC to draw upon (who doesn’t like to hear what Mac has to say in an interview?). I was a little disappointed that while they called Big John the best in the business, they didn’t recognize that it was his last fight. Oh well, thanks Big John.
